...CHRIS'N'ME...

CHAPTER FIVE -- SHE DOESN'T CARE -----------------------------------

"Wake up cutie," came Chris' sweet voice Sunday morning. "My mom made us some breakfast, you don't want to miss that do you?" I smelled what seemed to be pancakes and eggs so I quickly threw my clothes on. Chris kissed me before leaving the room ahead of me. That kiss brought back the memory of what we had done last night. It had been so wonderful, I loved Chris so much. The dream I'd had two nights ago also came back to me, and I felt as if any moment I would wake up. All this was so good, so unbelievable, that at times the only way that I could explain what was happening was that it was a dream. Without warning, I would soon wake up only to realize that nothing this good could ever be real.

Chris' mom had cooked up what looked to be a delicious breakfast. She served up our plates and we sat down at the table. The table was big enough for probably five people but Chris moved right next to me and sat close. His mom looked at us sitting right next to each other and gave a caring smile. I wondered what she was thinking. I'd only been around since the day before, had she already caught on to me and Chris? It didn't seem likely but something wasn't right. We finished our meal and headed off to mess around for a while. We didn't really do anything out of the ordinary that day, and it passed quickly. Before I knew it, it was already time for me to get home so that my parents don't chew me out. Chris walked me to his front door and said, "I love you. I'll see you tomorrow at school?"

"Of course, let me have your phone number so that I can call you tonight. I don't know how long I can stay away from you and talking to you might help." He wrote down his number on my hand and I gave him my number. I gave him a concerned look, "Chris, I'm so glad that we met, that things turned out the way they did. You're really special to me. I love you." His mom was in her bedroom so we snuck in a big kiss inside the front door. As our kiss ended I opened the door to leave. Just as I was closing the door I looked back and could see Chris' mom smiling from down the hallway. I waved to her and headed off home. As I walked home I got to thinking. Why was his mom smiling from down the hallway. How long had she been standing there and had she seen us kissing? These questions ran through my mind as I made my way home.

Once I arrived home I quickly ran to my room to call Chris. It rang, no answer. I wondered if they had gone somewhere maybe. I really wanted to talk to Chris, what would we do if his mom had seen us? It might've been for that reason that I called him, but that could have just been an excuse for me to hear his voice. That voice was music to my ears to listen to. It wasn't deep, it wasn't high pitch, it was just perfectly toned in between. What made it sound even better was that whenever I heard it I would picture me and my boy together.

I decided to find something to do that would help get my mind off Chris for a little while. Don't get me wrong, I love to think of Chris, but the more I think of him the more I miss him. I flipped on the TV in my room and found that the Simpsons was on. I love that show, it's got to be one of the funniest shows on television. I laughed my ass off when Homer took the breathalyzer test and came up with the top blood alcohol content of 'Boris Yeltzin'. After Simpsons was over I tried Chris' house, still no answer. I wonder where they went? The night wore on and still getting no answer I fell asleep.

We actually had nice weather for a change the next morning. The sun was out and there were no clouds in sight. "Hi Chris," I said to him as I approached him on his front porch the next morning. He smiled at me and stood up, ready to leave for the ceaseless boredom of school. "Is everything okay?" I asked him as we walked along.

"Yeah sure, why?" he asked back.

"I don't know, I thought, well..."

"What?"

"Last night after we were kissing I saw your mom down the hallway and she smiled and waved as I left. She didn't see us did she?"

"Don't worry about it James, she wouldn't care."

"How do you know she wouldn't care?"

"I just know that she wouldn't. She's cool, she always told me she doesn't care what I do she will always love me."

"So, did she see us or not?"

Chris didn't say anything, he just kept walking as though I hadn't said anything.

"Chris!" I said in a pleading tone. "Did she or didn't she?"

He was silent for a moment. "Yeah she saw us," he said. "But she doesn't care, really!" he said quickly. I didn't know what to say or do. Nobody else had known I was gay until Chris came along and now his mom knew. I wasn't comfortable knowing that an adult knew I was gay, it just didn't seem right.

"What the hell do we do now? I don't want our parents knowing we're a couple. Now every time your mom sees us she'll probably think we're out having sex all the time. Damnit."

"Settle down James. She talked to me, she said she didn't care. I was scared at first too. My mom had a hunch all along that I might be gay and she said that when we were sleeping on the couch together she really got suspicious. We'll be fine James, everything's gonna be fine." He put his arm around my shoulder and kissed my cheek. That made me feel a little better, although I still wasn't comfortable with all this.

"I hope you're right Chris. I just don't know about all this. I mean, what if your mom tells my parents? I don't want my parents to know yet." His arm was still around me and I leaned my head on his shoulder as we walked.

"She won't tell them if we don't want her to, she'll respect that."

The school came into view and I removed my head from Chris' shoulder so as not to draw attention. I realized how much I didn't want to go to school that day. Instead of crossing the street toward the school I grabbed Chris by the hand and kept walking.

"What are you doing? We're gonna be late to school!" Chris said. I held his hand tighter and kept walking down the block past the school. After a taking a shortcut through some trees and bushes we came to the lakeside. "What are we doing here, James? What about school? We'll get in trouble if we don't go."

"I'm sorry Chris, I didn't mean to drag you all this way for nothing. You go on to school without me, I just don't feel like going today. I'll be here at the lake afterward if you want to come see me."

"I'm not gonna just leave you here all day, what kind of boyfriend would I be if I did that?" he said as he smiled.

"No, it's alright. I don't want you getting in trouble Chris. I'll be fine here." I sat down in the grass and leaned my chin on my knees, staring out at the crystal clear water. After a moment I felt a hand running through my hair. Chris sat down behind me with a leg on either side and leaned his head on my left shoulder.

"I won't leave you James. It's fine with me to miss a day of school to be with you. It will definitely be more fun, that's for sure." He kissed me softly on the cheek and leaned his head back on my shoulder. I felt his arms reach around my waist until his hands touched each other. We sat there for a long time while he held me. Everything was so peaceful here at the lake.

"I wonder why I never came here before. It's so nice not having people bother you all the time."

"This will be our special place, okay James? Whenever we want to be alone we can come here to the lake."

We sat there for the longest time. Usually when I skip school I get kind of bored with nothing to do, but this somehow was eerily satisfying. His head on my shoulder and his arms around me settled my thoughts. Our situation had definitely changed now that someone else knew of us. "I love you," I whispered to Chris. He said nothing back and I realized that he had quietly fallen asleep on my shoulder. I leaned my head against his and slowly fell asleep too.

I awoke to the sound of voices coming toward me. I gave Chris a slight shake to wake him.

"Someone's coming, act like we're just sitting here doing nothing." I told him.

"Ok, whatever." he replied sleepily.

I heard the footsteps coming closer through the brush.

"Hey there James," I heard a voice from behind me. I turned and saw that it was my friend Marc and some girl, probably a neighborhood hoe he was trying to get with. They also had a girl named Kristina with them. She wasn't bad looking, for a girl anyway. I would occasionally catch her batting her eyes at me during class. I guess she probably wanted to go out with me but I never bothered to pursue the matter.

"Oh, who's that with you?" he asked me.

"This is my friend Chris. We didn't feel like going to school today so we're here killing some time until school gets out."

"Well, school's out now so you can stop killing time."

"What? What time is it?" I found it hard to believe that we'd slept that long but looking at my watch assured me we had. I was amazed nobody had woke us until now. Maybe this place is more secluded than I thought, or at least I hope so.

"Damn! How long have you two been here?" asked Marc, amazed that I'd lost track of time.

"Since this morning some time I think," I told him, trying not to act like I knew exactly how long me and Chris had been here together.

"Anyway, I'll catch ya later. I'm gonna go over to this girl's house right now." He said, pointing at the girl next to him. She gave him an evil stare, probably because he called her 'this girl'.

As they started to walk off Kristina turned and looked at me. "Hey, umm, there's gonna be a party at my house this Friday night. I was wondering if, maybe," she was nervous I think, I knew what she wanted to say though. "Do you want to go to the party?" I didn't really know what to say. I didn't really want to go but I didn't want everyone to think I was stupid for not going to a party with a good-looking girl. I looked over at Chris to see what his expression was. He shrugged his shoulders, not wanting to make decisions for me.

She looked over at Chris, "I think Chrissy kinda likes you, she'll be at the party. You can come if you want to."

"Ok, we'll be there. What time?" I said.

"Umm... around 8 I guess, ok?"

"Ok, we'll see you there. Wait, where do you live?"

"Oh ask around and you'll find out." Then she ran off to catch up with Marc and whoever that slut was.

"Are you alright with this?" I asked Chris. I didn't want him to do something he didn't want to.

"Yeah, it's alright. We'll see if there's a back room we can sneak off into." he grinned evilly.

"Chris, please don't hate me for saying so, but Kristina doesn't look all that bad, really. If I were into girls she'd be a pretty good choice."

He smiled at me and then pushed me on my back and kissed me. He stopped and looked at me, "Well, it's a good thing I got to you first, now isn't it?"

"Oh you don't have to worry about that, she's definitely no competition." I told him. It was 100% truth too. There was no way any girl would stand a chance against Chris, no matter how good she looked.

We sat there for a little bit longer before deciding we should get home. Our parents would probably be wondering where we were.

"Why don't you come in?" Chris asked me when we got his house.

"I don't know, I'm still not completely comfortable with your mom knowing about us. It just doesn't seem right."

"Get your ass in here, she doesn't care, I don't care, and you shouldn't care." He grabbed my hand and pulled me in the front door.

"Hi Chris!" came his mom's voice from the kitchen. She was cooking something that smelled good. I wonder why moms always seem to be able to cook good food, it's almost as though they're born with some secret knowledge of cooking.

"Hi mom! James is stopping by for a little bit on his way home."

"Hi James!" she yelled from the kitchen. "Do you want to stay for dinner? I'm making tuna noodle casserole if you want some. It'll be a little while before it's ready though."

Chris begged me to stay and I couldn't resist so I called my mom to make sure it was okay. She said it was okay just so long as I was home by dark. We walked into the kitchen where his mom was cooking and she beamed what looked to be an excessively large smile at me. I was just waiting for her to say something about me and Chris but she didn't, she just smiled. I smiled back, although I didn't quite know why. I was thinking maybe it would've been better if she had just come out and said something but she didn't.

"It will be another hour or so before dinner is ready, so maybe you two want to go do something?"

"Yeah sure. C'mon James, let's go find something constructive to do." he said as he rolled his eyes.

"I saw that," said his mom. We got up and walked out of the kitchen and down the hall toward his room. "Keep the rough housing to a minimum in there okay?" his mom yelled from the kitchen.

"Whatever mom." Chris yelled back. We went to his room and messed around for a little while on his computer. We played a game called Half-Life, which I have to admit was about the best game I've ever seen. Who ever knew shooting up people over the internet could be so much fun? After we'd wasted away an hour his mom informed us that dinner was ready. We washed our hands and went into the dining room to eat. His mom was an expert cook and I had no complaints.

His mom stopped eating for moment and looked at Chris. "Vicki and I are going to the movies tonight, do you want to go?"

"Who's Vicki?" asked Chris.

"She's the blonde lady that I had over for lunch last week, remember?" Chris' expression was blank and he obviously had no idea who she was talking about. "She works with me at the office, remember?" He still hadn't figured out who she was talking about. "She said you're cute and that the girls are probably all over you at school. Don't you remember any of that?"

"Oh yeah! Now I remember, she was nice."

"You only say that because she said you were a good looking kid and had girls all over you." His mom smiled and then laughed.

"What are you laughing at?" he asked his mom.

"Oh nothing." she answered. "Girls, that's funny..." she trailed off.

"What? Mom!" He and I knew what she meant by that.

"Enough of that, are you going to the movies with us or not?"

"I don't know, going to a movie with my mom? That might damage my reputation." he said sarcastically.

"You don't have to watch the movie with us silly. We could drop you off and you could go see whatever you want."

"Can James come with me?" he asked enthusiastically.

"As long as you two stay out of trouble."

"Oh come on, how much trouble could two teenage boys possibly get into?"

"Uh huh." his mom said in a not so believing tone. She squinted her eyes and peered at us. "I know about you two, you can't fool me."

"Whatever you say mom. Yeah I'll go. Do you wanna go to the movies with me James?"

"Sure. What movie we gonna see?" I asked.

"I want to go see Entrapment, that looks really good."

"That's Sean Connery's new movie right? That looks pretty good." We agreed on the movie and after dinner we got ready to go.

We arrived at the theater around 7 o'clock and bought our tickets. We parted with Chris' mom and Vicki and said we'd meet up after the movie was over. We paid the outrageous prices for some popcorn and a drink and entered the movie. Chris pointed out some empty seats in the back and it made me wonder if he had really come here to watch the movie. We waited for a few minutes and the previews started. Chris slowly moved his arm and took my hand in his. I smiled and turned my eyes back to the screen. His hand was warm and it felt good to hold it. I had never had a boyfriend or girlfriend so I had never had anyone's hand to hold at a movie and I was liking this.

The movie was cool and I was really enjoying it. Sean Connery might be old but he can still act better than most of them out there. Toward the middle of the movie Chris removed his hand from mine and put his arm around my shoulder. He leaned over and whispered into my ear, "I love you."

I looked over at him but didn't need to say anything, he knew how I felt about him. I moved closer to him and our lips met. It felt wonderful as we kissed and I realized that this was the first time we'd ever kissed where others could easily see us. It was dark in the theater but I'm sure if someone looked they could tell what we were doing. I didn't care though, I loved Chris and I figured that there was no point trying so hard to hide it anymore. We must have missed some pretty crucial parts of the movie while kissing because afterward we were wondering what was going on.

"That movie was really good. I should use some tactics like that to rob a bank or something." Chris said to me after we left the theater.

"You could try, but I'd hate to have you go to prison. What would I do without you around?"

"Yeah I guess so. The thought of being rich sounds awfully good though."

I smiled and we walked out into the main area to wait for his mom and her friend Vicki.

When they came out of the theater and approached us they were talking about a bunch of crap that we didn't care about. I guess they must have just seen a chick flick, and we all know how women get after those.

"Did you two enjoy the movie?" his mom asked us.

"Yeah, it was really cool. I was telling James that I'm gonna use some of the tricks they used in the movie to rob a bank and get rich."

His mom laughed and said, "Well, I'd hate to see you get arrested. But if you do pull something like that I better get a cut."

We walked out to the car and were on our way amidst all the outgoing traffic. His mom drove a Lexus and I wondered just how much money she really made.

"Are you coming back over to our house or do you want a ride home, James?" his mom asked as we drove.

"I should probably be getting home, I never did tell my parents I was going to a movie. They're probably wondering what you cooked that took so long to eat."

We pulled up in front of my house and his mom said goodbye to me. Before I got out of the car Chris leaned over and gave me a kiss on the cheek. His mom's friend Vicki saw it and had a puzzled expression on her face. Obviously she didn't know about me and Chris and this came as quite a shock to her. The car windows were tinted so I didn't have to worry about anyone at my house seeing us. I opened the door and hopped out.

"I'll see you tomorrow Chris. I love you."

"Love you too." he said back. That was the first time we'd ever really done anything so openly in front of his mom, except for when she saw us kissing in her house, but that wasn't intentional. It felt kind of nice to not have to hide it all in front of everybody. At least his mom was cool with it for now, and that was a start.

"Oh, ask your mom about Friday." I said as I closed the door and went up to my front door. "I'm home," I said as I walked through the door. "Chris and I went with his mom to the movies, sorry I didn't call. I figured it would be alright though."

"A movie? Oh, that's fine, what movie'd ya see?" my dad asked.

"Entrapment, that new movie with Sean Connery. It was good, I liked it."

"Oh, that's good. It's alright this time but next time call us please."

"Yeah, sure."

The night wore on uneventfully and I went up to my room to get ready for bed. This day had been good. I'd have to write myself a fake note or something to excuse me from being absent all day, but I'd done that before and it wasn't too hard. I went to bed wondering what Friday would turn out like. Personally I'd much rather just spend the night alone with Chris, but it might be fun to fool around at the party. The thing I was worried about was Kristina trying to get with me. What the hell would I do? Any normal kid would have no problem but I wasn't really normal. Not from other people's view anyway. How would I tell a good-looking girl that I'm not interested? Oh well, that was a few days away and things would go as they go. As long as I had Chris things would be fine...

To Be Continued... --------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 5 is finally done. I hope that you aren't mad at me for taking so long. Things have been up and down lately. I had a writer's block or something for a while there, and last Friday was what I'd call a really bad day. I won't go into details unless you really want me to. I've also been kinda preoccupied with a new kid at my school who, to say the least, is really cute. But anyway, drop me a note and let me know what you thought of it. Thanks all :)
