CHAPTER TWELVE
Old Charlie was the only black man in Desolation. He had worked the oil fields for many years. In his twenties, he bought a small house in Desolation that served as his shop now. A larger home on a small farm outside town was where he lived. Good pay in the oil fields had left him out of debt and with a large sum in savings. You would never know it looking at Charlie or his house and shop. Everything was simple and nothing attracted any attention. The meanness and jealousy he had seen in this world led him to lead an anonymous life. He was just happier that way. For all anybody knew, he needed every penny he could make at his shop just to get by. He was a quiet man.
He met his wife Maria just after he bought the little farm. There was no house there then and no well. The irrigation canal from the lake never reached the farm. Even as pasture it was useless without water for livestock. It was cheap. He knew it had possibilities even if the seller couldn't see them.
Maria had come from Mexico looking for work and settled in with family in Desolation. She never went any further. She found a job as a maid for a family and cared for they're children as part of the work. She walked to and from work every day. If the weather was bad, her cousin or the lady of the house gave her a ride. It wasn't far in a small town. She never spent anything, but put a small amount in the grocery money jar every week and some in the offering plate at church.
Some days Charlie would see her walking. A few times when it was really hot, he stopped and gave her a ride to her house. He was always polite and spoke Spanish in a functional way that didn't make for much conversation. One Saturday she showed up at his house. Everyone knew he fixed cars and sold some aside from his oilfield work.
Maria's English had been improving working in a white family's home. "You sell car?' she asked him. Months had passed and she had saved quite a lot. "Yes, I sell cars and I fix cars" Charlie had replied. He had three cars to sell and showed her each one. "This one is twelve hundred, *doce ciento;*this one is a thousand, mil; this one is six hundred, seis ciento," he said in turn. "All are good cars, todos buenos," he added at the end.
She walked back and forth inspecting each car again with her hand cupped around her chin. Finally she stopped in front of the middle priced car. "I give you five hundred and pay fifty each week, okay?" She thought the cheapest car might not be good enough. She had much more than a thousand saved, but thought that paying it out would be better. If the car broke down before she finished paying it off he would have to fix it to get all of his money.
Charlie agreed to her terms. She said she would walk home and bring back the money, but he insisted she drive the car. He rode along just to see if she could drive. She came out of the house with the money in her hand and drove him back to his house. She wasn't a great driver, but practice would take care of that.
Every week on Saturday she came back and paid him. Every week she stayed longer asking him to talk to her in English so she would learn more. One Saturday he took her to lunch in town.
At first her family objected, and would have if Charlie was a white man, too. Maria was twenty eight and single in a Mexican family where marriage at eighteen was a late marriage. They were married in the little Catholic Church before the year was out. Her family even helped him build a nice adobe house on the farm after he got the well put in. She continued working as a maid for the Esterhazy family and found time to raise five children she and Charlie had together. She was past the marrying age and he was the only black person in town. They settled. In Charlie and Maria's case it was a beautiful thing.
Both were retired from regular jobs now. Every day at noon Maria came to Charlie's Shop. She brought their lunch and sat at a little table in the old kitchen and ate with him. He worked at the shop mostly to stay busy, but also because people needed him. At the end of the day, he locked the doors and drove home to his little farm and the love of his life. All the children had left Desolation long ago and raised their families somewhere else. Charlie and Maria had each other.
Maria had continued to work at the Esterhazy home a couple of times a week even after she retired. She cared about the boy. Bob's face would light up every time she came. Even old Martin would come to the house for lunch when she was there. Charlie always ate late those days. She brought Charlie some of what she fixed at the house. Bob was like another son. He even became quite a good Mexican cook. *
CHAPTER THIRTEEN *
Johnny Mac showed up at Old Charlie's farm early on Friday morning. He had called the day before saying he needed some help putting in a cattle guard. It would take a big man to wrestle the heavy steel into place and Johnny Mac was the one who could do it. It might take two days. Johnny Mac agreed to do it. There was no need to discuss a price. Old Charlie was a fair man and Johnny Mac respected him. He hadn't worked in a week and his spending money was getting low. He had done work for Charlie several times before. Charlie just told him what he wanted done and stayed quiet until he was finished. One thing Johnny Mac didn't need was someone yelling and fucking with him. Money for that kind of shit wasn't worth it.
Charlie had built a concrete footing for the cattle guard weeks ago. Besides setting the steel frame in place, the fence needed corner posts and had to be brought back in a vee to meet the new guard. He and Maria were getting too old to open gates anymore. Charlie lined him out and left for his shop.
When he drove up after five that evening Johnny Mac was spreading gravel to tie the guard opening into the existing road to the house. He already had the new culvert covered and was working on the last pile near the road. Charlie had been sure it would take two days. Johnny Mac didn't waste any time. Charlie took out his wallet and pulled two hundreds from it for his pocket. In Charlie's eyes the worst temptation you could give a man was to show him how much money you had on you.
He inspected the work. The fence was tied in tight and everything was done. Johnny Mac raised the box blade and drove Charlie's tractor back to the barn without a word. Charlie parked in his usual spot and walked to meet Johnny Mac. "I expected that to take longer. Since you did it right and in less time, here's the full pay and I'll throw in fixing your truck the next time it needs it if you buy the parts."
Johnny Mac got a big smile when Charlie handed him two hundred dollars. It was really more than he expected, but he did think Charlie was a fair man. All he said was "Thank you man, and call me next time you need help."
When he got down the road a ways Johnny Mac let out a hoot you could hear all the way in town. His pocket was full again and just in time. From the way his truck was running, it wouldn't be long before he took it to the old man anyway. Damn, it was a good day.
He stopped at the Gas'n'Go and filled his tank. Laura was at the counter to take his money. The hundred was a new problem for her. She had to get help so she could give him his change. Several people were in line by the time she was done, so all that was said was see you later more or less. He pointed the truck toward the beer store and held the gas peddle to the floor the whole way there. Eighty was all he got it to go. Those repairs were already past due. Carrying a sack of weed, even driving eighty was a bad idea. Johnny Mac thought he was bulletproof. He looked old enough that he rarely got asked for ID, but had his fake one if he needed it. He only passed one car going in the opposite direction. Today Johnny Mac was bulletproof.
He bought five cases at the store. The cashier helped him carry it to the truck. One case went in the front seat and the rest went in the bed. The return trip went about the same. Before reaching Desolation, Johnny Mac turned off and headed into the country. Going first down a paved road and two turns on dirt roads he came to a ranch gate. He went through the gate and shut it behind him. He continued on down a rough dirt track back into the pasture. Around a curve and down a hill he came to a run down cabin with a small pickup parked to the side. During deer season it was used by hunters. The place belonged to a friend's dad. A few cattle were run on the pasture and outside of deer season the cabin had become a party place for the boys. The dad gave his blessing to the boys saying that at least there, no one would get into any trouble and there would be no gossip around town about the boy's behavior.
A cloud of smoke engulfed Johnny Mac as he came through the door. Two long-haired boys about nineteen were sitting on a couch smoking a bong. The both held up a hand over their eyes as the outside light from the door momentarily blinded them. Johnny Mac had the case from the front of the truck in one hand and slid between the two to the center of the couch.
The cabin was all one room with a door that opened to a bathroom built on the side. It held a very basic kitchen in one corner, two beds, a table, a couch, and a chair. A TV and a boom box brought in the modern world. It had been used to house Mexican labor, but deer leases proved more profitable than ranching. Before deer season started all the cattle were relocated and the boys' possessions were taken home. For most of the year the boys had it all to themselves.
Both boys, Donnie and Gary, had shoulder length dark hair. Each was about five foot eight and skinny. They looked like brothers but were in fact cousins. Johnny Mac was bigger than both boys put together in size and weight. The boys idolized Johnny Mac. They had seen him mean and drunk and they feared him a little, too.
The night began as a pure drinking and smoking binge. The younger guys already had a head start smoking. Johnny Mac caught up fast. There were movies and DVDs, but they were background pictures as the music played. Beer went twice as far toward getting the younger guys drunk. Johnny had already finished twelve on the drive back, chunking the empties out the window as he finished them. That evened things out a little. The school year was ending and it was exam time. Both younger guys had gotten the day off from exams and being true teenage vampires had stayed up late into the night and slept most of the day. This evened things out more because Johnny Mac had been up early and worked a hard day.
After midnight Gary put on a porno. Within minutes all three were naked and attending to their own impulses. There was no interaction between them except that they sat so close to each other their bodies touched.
Everything was fine for a while. They were all drunk and stoned almost to the point of passing out and definitely not in control of their senses. Johnny Mac was in a walking blackout. He reached that point nearly every time enough alcohol in some form was available. Inside Johnny Mac was torn between lust and self hatred. The lust was winning the battle and the hatred was turning toward others. He reached over and pulled Gary's hand to his groin.
"I ain't no faggot, man. Don't do that shit to me." Gary didn't know what else to say. He saw that violent look in Johnny's eyes and this time it scared him. He pulled his hand free and back to his lap.
"I know that, because if you were I'd fuck you up bad, boy." Johnny Mac grasped his wrist again and pulled it back again where he had put it the first time. Fear led to passive submission. What followed then was a night of abuse for both boys that would be called violent if it involved a man and a woman. For Johnny and these two boys it was their normal routine.
Johnny Mac would strike one boy and pull him back to continue, and then repeat the same actions with the other until at last he passed out. Johnny's sober self might not remember all the times they'd done this before, but his drunk self sure did. They had done more in the past and denial was just the macho coming out. It had continued for more than a year now. If a woman had been there, they would still be paying attention to each other and she'd be left out. Admitting they liked it was impossible for them and the roughness only made it better.
Johnny was looking for some smoke the first time he got together with Donnie and Gary. He'd known them all their lives but never been a close friend. He'd driven to own, bought beer and asked around there for some smoke, but town was dry. He stopped by the beach on the lake before going home and ran into Donnie and Gary.
"We ain't got any to sell," Gary told him, "But if you bring some beer, we'll 'smoke out' with you at the hunting cabin." He followed them there and that night their routine of smoking, drinking, and sex, began. Even a straight man has some fascination for a huge dick like Johnny's. They might not consider sucking it or taking it up the ass, but most would want to touch it. Touching it led to the next step. Neither boy could swallow all of Johnny's dick, no matter how hard he tried to force it down their throats. Johnny decided to try their asses instead. Screaming and begging him to stop because it hurt did no good.
After a few sessions of experimenting, both started to enjoy the sex. Gary was so into it, he pressured Donnie to do it with him when Johnny wasn't around. Donnie just felt guilt. He felt dirty, but he gave in to Gary and Johnny every time they asked.
When Johnny passed out, the tables turned. He'd stay hard with the least amount of stimulation, but would only cum from getting fucked. His pucker had been so tight a little finger could barely slip inside. Now he took Donnie or Gary easily. Gary would ride Johnny's big dick for his own pleasure with him passed out and fuck him, too. Donnie would only fuck him. He did it as rough as he could manage so he could even the score. This night Donnie jacked off and shot his load in Johnny's open mouth before he was done. The stopped when Johnny had six loads in his ass.
The boys were at the point of passing out as well. Their fear had subsided when Johnny Mac passed out. Neither was injured, but both were confused because the violence was getting worse and they didn't understand why. They had seen Johnny Mac drunk and violent before. The next day the violence would be gone and all memory of it lost, clouded by the blind drunkenness. Their memories didn't meet the same fate. Except for a few unexplainable bruises and cuts and the smell of cum that lingered in the cabin, they remembered everything. One passed out on the couch and the other found the empty bed.
