Chapter Seven

"Happy December morning to all you Minnesotans out there!" the radio said. "We have a special guests in the studio this morning and you'll hear about them when we get back from the 30 minute music sweep." The announcer said as Mariah Carey's `All I Want For Christmas is you' came on.

I rolled over in bed. It had be a little over two months since I had left the boys. But my life was less dramatic. I sold my coffee shop and bought a restaurant where I was waiter. No one there knows that I bought the place and I want to keep it that way. Well most days, today was not one of those days. I have to open and be one the first servers there. So I have to me get up now to get there at 9am.

I rolled over and looked over at the clock, it was 8:05. I crawled out of bed and padded across the cold hardwood floor into the bathroom. I LOVED this bathroom. It was actually one of the reasons I bought this place. The shower was in the middle of the bathroom. There's no stall or a tub to stand it. There's a drain in the floor and there is a circular track for the shower curtain.

I turned on the shower, "Well lets get ready to start the day." I said out loud.

I walked into work and shivered. It was too cold outside so today wasn't going to be a busy day, I hope. I got my tasks from the manager and went about them for the day. Before I knew it and we were opened and people started trickling in.

I looked down at my watch, it was 11:48 and we have 3 out of 20 table full. This was a sign that today was going to be an easy day. Or so I thought.

I heard the door opened, I turned and went for the menus. "Hey guys, how many people in your party?" I asked with out looking up.

"Two." The customer's voice cracked.

"Sir is something..." I trailed off when I made eye contact with Nick's blue eyes. "Oh fuck me." I spat out looking from him to Jessica.

"Hey Caleb how's..." I cut him off.

"I'll show you to your table." I said in a cold tone. I took off for a table near the window. I threw their menus on the table. "There you go. Now let me go find you a new waiter." I said turning walking away until I felt Nick's hand on my shoulder. I smacked it off of me. "Don't touch me." I snapped and took off to the back room.

"Hey Caleb, what's up?" one my co-workers said.

"I need someone to take a table for me. I am sure there will big a tip in it for you." I said. I looked around as the hands shot up. "OK it's table six." I said walking out.

That night I was sitting in my loft reading a book, when there was ring from the doorman.

"Mr. Mathers, there is a boy band member down here in the lobby who says he knows you."

"Did you get a name?" I asked the doorman.

"Yea, but it was an fake name. I only know that he is a boybander because my daughter has his picture up on her bedroom wall. I think his name is Jason or James."

"Jeff?" I said.

"Yea that's it." he said.

"Send him up." I said hanging up the phone and getting up to open my front door. I waited until Jeff knocked on the door. I slid the door opened and there stood Jeff soaking wet from the sleet that had started earlier that afternoon.

"Jeff?" I asked nervously. He didn't say anything, I went to say something else but before I could get another word out Jeff's lips were on mines. His cold wet hands were at the sides of my face holding my face in places as his tongue explored my mouth. After a few seconds of shock my body started to react and I was kissing him.

I started grabbing at his coat and pulling it off of him and then his sweater he was wearing. Our lips only separated for the time it took to get his sweater and his t-shirt off.

Jeff finally ended the kiss and stood there half naked looking at him. I looked over his body and was immediately in lust with him. Jeff stood two inches taller than me and had me by at least 30lbs.

As I looked into his eyes, I thought I saw the same thing feelings that were in mines. I didn't know how wrong I was until Jeff uttered his first words to me in months.

"Caleb I love you."

"What?!" I said chocking on my own air and taking a few steps back. "Excuse me?"

"I love you. I have never loved anyone as much as I have loved you." He said taking a step towards me.

I took a step back, "What? Are you sure? I mean why me?" I asked.

This time I didn't' move when Jeff took a step towards me. His hand came up caressed my face. He smiled at me as he brushed a hair out of my face. "I have never been more surer of anything in my life."

I couldn't help but blush at his very sweet words and actions. "What about Nick?" I asked.

"I haven't spoken to him or Drew in the last month. I was so angry at the two of them for that shit they pulled on you." He said sliding an arm around my waist and pulling me to him.

"Doesn't that put a strain on group relations?" I asked.

"Well the show we had tonight was our last show on the tour. And we have decided to take a break. To see if this is really what we want to do." He said.

"Oh." I said, my nervousness clearly evident on my face.

"It's been a long time coming Caleb. It just took us a while to see it." he said.

I decided a subject change was in order. "So what are you going to do with your break?" I asked.

"Well I am going to try and convince a special Minnesotan to take me in for the holiday season." He said kissing me on my forehead.

"Where's your bag?" I asked melting at his touch.

"Hold on." He said letting me go for a second and grabbing his bag. "Here."

"Put it in the second bedroom. That's where you're sleeping." I said looking up at him.

He looked disappointed. "Are you sure?" he asked.

"Yes, I am sure. It's too soon for me to be jumping in the bed with another guy, let alone my ex's best friend." I said. "I am not saying give up hope, but what I am saying that we have to take it slow." I said.

The next morning I woke to someone knocking on my bedroom door.

"Come in." I called out.

The door opened and Jeff was standing there in his boxer with breakfast on a tray with a rose in his mouth.

"What are you doing?" I laughed as he walks up the bed.

He took the rose out of his mouth and handed it to me. "I made you breakfast. Is that cool?" he said.

"Yea. It's fine." I said looking at it. "It looks good. Looks like if your career doesn't work out, you can be a chef." I said as I watched his face fall. "Did I say something wrong?"

"No, not at all." He said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"I have been thinking about that lately. What we're going to do about the group." He said pulling his leg under him.

"Well it's just a break. Things will be back to normal before you know it." I said patting him on his knee.

"You know something. I am not sure I want it to be back to normal. I am so pissed at Nick for pulling that shit." He said.

"Don't worry about it. Lets just eat and think about that later." I said.

For the next half and hour we sat and ate. He told me about the places they went to on tour and the things they saw. I asked about Justin and he told me he was with him family. While I sat and talked to him I realized me and Jeff clicked better then I did with Nick. But I just felt weird about going from one member of the band to another.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked as he gathered up the dishes.

"How great you look in barely nothing and wondering how many woman would kill to be in my shoes." I lied.

"I'm nothing special." He said walking out of the room.

I checked out his ass in his boxers as he walked out. Stop it Caleb, you have to control yourself. I climbed out of bed and slipped a t-shirt on. I walked out of my room and into the living room. I leaned against a pillar and watched as Jeff washed the dishes.

I couldn't help but smile as watched him. He has a certain grace about it, a masculine grace, but grace nonetheless.

"Jeff, how is this going to look?" I asked.

He looked up from the dishes, "How's what going to look?"

"You and me. Us. Say we do this. How is this going to look?" I said walking towards the kitchen.

He turned off the water and dried his hands. He came up to me and took me in his arm. "It doesn't matter how it's going to look." He whispered into my hair. "What matters is I want to be with you and that you want to be with me." He squeezed me.

We stayed like that for who knows how long. I think both of us needed it.

"So what do you want to do today?" Jeff asked me.

"This is just fine." I said pulling his arms tighter around me.

"You sure?" he said smiling at him.

I turned and look at him. "Yes, I want nothing more." I said.

"Good." He said kissing my forehead. As he pulled away he cell started to ring. "I wonder who it is." He said pressing the button. "Hello ... Don't worry about it ... why do you care ... fuck off ... whatever!" he said hanging up and throwing his phone on the coffee table.

I pulled away from him and turned to look at him. I watched him for a second. "Are you ok?"

"Yea." He said standing up and walking over to the window.

I stood and thought about following him. "Who was that?" I asked.

"Two guesses." He spat out.

"The guys?" I asked.

"Nick to be specific." He said looking out the window. I could see the muscle in his tense as he said his name.

"What did he want?" I said knowing the answer.

"He wanted to know where I was and if I was with you." He said turning and looking at me.

"Why?" I asked.

"Not sure." But let's get out of here and do something." He said and then thought for a second.  "We can go tubing!"

"Yea, we should." I said dropping the feeling that he was hiding something and usually when you fell like someone is hiding something from you, something bad is about to go down.
