Hotel room
I woke up early the next day and noticed that it was raining hard outside. I got up and looked out the window. It was still dark and the rush hour traffic outside made me guess that it was around eight am in the morning. All the people look so small down there. People with umbrellas walking in all directions. Cars, cabs and buses moving in all directions too. People poured in and out of the subway station. This was life? Going from one place to another. Never stopping and looking back, never looking to your left and right. Life is like a train trip. You set off in one direction and don't stop until you reach the destination. And you will never know anything about the stops along the way that you pass. If I hadn't bought us those ticket for the awards, I would never have met Lance. I would still be home living my life as usual. I would be like the train, travelling straight forward and not stopping. I was studying medicine in Gothenburg. She was also a student there but she studies economy. Did I want to become a surgeon? Was I happy with my life? I have always thought I was happy. That was until I met Lance yesterday. He made feel like I have never felt before. It isn't the same with Jennifer. She is nice and beatiful, but she seems more like a really close friend. I had never before felt anything for another guy. I have friends who are gay but I never thought I would have feelings for another man. I got out of my trance as the thunder roared outside. Flash and thunder came at the same time and it was loud. The whole building shivered. I backed away from the window and Jennifer flew out of bed.
-"What was that!?" She asked me almost screaming.
-"Just the thunder." I answered back a little shocked.
-"Thunder? I thought it was an eartquake! It felt like the building was about to collapse!"
-"I know. But Earthquakes don't occur here." I said and went over to Jennifer and hugged her. She was shaking.
-"I know." She said in a whisper.
-"Are you still thinking about what happened six years ago?"
-"It will never go away. That memory will I have to live with."
-"It's okay now. That won't atleast happen while we're here."
-"But when we get home will the risk always be there."
-"I don't think there's a risk."
-"You don't think so?"
-"No, I don't. There isn't much of a risk for an earthquake like that again. We hardly have shivers. That was a lonely one. It won't happen again." I said that to try and calm here down.
-"It was still horrible. I was so close to be trapped in the basement when the house collapsed above it. Luckily I found a way out in time before drowning."
-"I know it was horrible. I was there too you know. I was only living two miles away from you. I was scared too but here we are now."
-"We made it."
-"Yea. We made it."
She sat betwen my legs with her back resting on my chest. I put my arms around her and began to rock her gently. I could hear her sobbing quietly but I decided not to say anything. I just kept rocking her and soon was she asleep again. I slowly put her head on her pillow and tucked her in. I went to the bathroom. I took a shower and shaved. The clock was ten when I was done and Jennifer was still sound asleep. I decided against waking her up and left her a note instead. I knew she wanted to stay indoors today and she would also probably sleep the most of the day so I wrote that I would be back before three pm. I went out the door and put on the 'don't disturbe' sign for the cleaning maids. I locked and went over to the elevator. I was alone using it and I was grateful for that. I just stood there looking out through the elevator windows. It was still raining outside but the rush hour was over. The thunder was roaring over the horizone now. The doors slid open as it reached the lobby and I began to walk for the exit. Before going out I reached for the note in my pockets and found it. I read it once more and put it back. Once outside I grabbed the first cab I saw and gave him directions. I got soaking wet only by beeing out in the rain for around ten seconds. Even though rush hour was over it felt like it took an eternity to reach my destination. The cab finally stopped and I paid him. I got out and just stood there for a few seconds. Unsure if I wanted to enter or not. Of Course I wanted to go inside, away from the rain, but did I want to meet him again?
-"Yes, I want to." I said very low to myself and went inside. Everything was the same as last time I was here. Café Opera hadn't changed a bit over the years. It felt like yesterday I were here with Jennifer. We had just met and we ate dinner here before going home. We didn't met each other in Gothenburg, we met here in Stockholm during the water festival. I looked into the restaurant and saw Lance sitting there. He was looking out through the window, staring at nothing. 'He does that a lot.' I thought to myself. I went to the restaurant closet and gave the attendent my jacket and was then greeted by one of the waiters. He directed me to Lance's table. Lance looked up as I approached and he just smiled. He rose quickly and pulled out the chair for me.
-"It's good to see you again." He said to me once we both were sitting.
-"The same. Are you tired after yesterday?" I asked him.
-"No. I got back to my hotel room right after we danced."
I started to blush and Lance saw that.
-"You were the last thing I thought about when I fell asleep and you were the first thing I thought about when I woke up. He said and leaned a bit forward, putting his elbows on the table. I blushed even more.
-"I thought about you too. I really liked to dance with you yesterday." I said after a while. He was sitting there, looking at me with those big, green eyes. I looked straight into them.
-"Have anyone told you that you have the most gorgeous eyes. Big and blue, just like the ocean." He said and continued to look at me. I swear it felt like he was watching my soul working inside me. Reading every thought in my head.
-"I like your eyes too. They're so honest, so calm." I said to him.
-"Have you had breakfast yet?" He asked me bluntly.
-"Huh?" I said as I really didn't understand what he was saying.
-"Are you hungry?"
-"I haven't had breakfast yet."
-"Good. Then lets order some. It's on me."
-"You don't have to pay for me. I can pay for myself."
-"I want to." He almost pleaded and he had those puppy eyes. It made me melt right then and there.
-"You win." I said smiling and turned my face down to continue read the menu. We ordered and got our food. We talked a little about everything while eating. I told him how life was like as a student and he told me how it was touring. When we had eaten everything we both went quiet.
-"How did you feel about the kiss last night?" He asked me.
-"I liked it. A lot." I answered with a smile.
-"Me too. I really like you. There was something about you last night. When you hit me on my arm and our eyes met. Or in the bathroom after I spilled coke on you and Justin. I so wanted to kiss you then. I had to settle with my hand on your thigh. It wasn't anywhere near the feeling of your lips."
-"I like you too. I have never had feelings for another guy. I guess it's because I haven't met anyone I would like in that way until I met you."
Instead of saying something, he put his hand on top of mine and caressed it. We stared at each other. I intertwined my fingers with his. He looked so happy. I shure was happy.
-"We shure stare alot." I said to him.
-"Yea. And it's not like I don't enyoj doing it." He answered me without changing his expression on his face.
-"Shall we go?" I asked.
-"Do you want to leave?" He asked and I felt his hand stiffen.
-"I thought that maybe we could take a walk and talk some more. It stopped raining some time ago."
-"Sounds like a plan."
The waiter came up to us and took away the plates and everything. It was like he had listened to us and heard that we were leaving. He came back with the check and Lance paid.
-"I can pay for myself." I said.
-"No. This is on me." He answered very promptly.
We stood up got our clothes from the closet.
-"Where should we go? I don't know my way around here." He asked me and I saw that he felt a little bit uncomfortable.
-"We can go to the park for a walk. I don't live here either you know."
-"Are there many people in the park at this time?"
-"Not today anyway. It has been raining. Why do you ask?"
-"Nothing. I don't want to sign autographs, that's all." He looked away as he said that. "Wich way?"
-"This way." I said and started walk up the street. I know that wasn't his real reason for asking. "Is it though with all the fans?"
-"Very. It's nice beeing famous and I make good money on it but I sometimes wonder if its all worth it. I was born and raised in a small town. I miss my hometown alot. I miss my parents."
-"I understand."
We walked towards the park. The sun was shining through the clouds. We entered the park and started to slowly walk along a path that eventually took us to the big lake. We talked about his hometown and his life as a kid. It was interesting. We sat down at a bench with a view of the lake.
-"How come you let me dance with you last night?" He asked me and changed subject.
-"I don't know. Because I wanted to?" I answered and looked at him. He seemed to be thinking.
-"I was just wondering what will happen when we leave for our next stop on our tour. I don't want to leave you. I really like you."
-"I don't know. I haven't thought about that."
-"Can we continue walk?" He pleaded.
-"Of course."
We rose and continued to walk along the river. It was only we in the park now. I reached with my right hand for his left and he let me take it. We walked there holding hands for around ten minutes and then he stopped. He placed one of his hands around my neck and the other on on the back of my head. Just like yesterday. He leaned forward and kissed me again. I grabbed his waist and pulled him closer to me and parted my lips for his tounge. I ran my hands up and down his back. We stopped for air. He pulled me even closer and hugged me. I put my head on his shoulder and I could feel the warmth of his body. I thought about what I was doing. Why was I doing all this? I was in love with Jennifer. Was I in love with Lance? Until now hadn't I thought about her at all. Maybe I wasn't in love with her? I only know one thing and that is that someone will get hurt. I would get hurt also. He pulled away a bit and started to kiss me again. We kissed for maybe another minute and parted afterwards. We walked along the river holding hands. He stopped and looked out over the lake. He let go of my hand and put both his hands in his jack pockets.
-"What is it?" I asked with much concern.
-"Nothing. Enjoying the view." He answered with a low voice.
I saw a tear forming in his eye. I turned him towards me and whiped away the tear with my hand.
-"What's the matter?" I asked again.
-"It's just that I have to leave soon."
-"But that won't be the end of the world, would it?"
-"I don't want to leave you."
-"We'll have to make the best use of the time we have together."
He just smiled at me. I hadn't thought about that either. I didn't know what to do. My mind was raising, I was falling in love with a guy that had to leave soon. That would be it. I had my life and he had his, divided by the atlantic ocean. He couldn't stay here and I couldn't come with. I started walking again. Not thinking about Lance. I thought about it over and over again. How was I supposed to be able to watch him leave?
-"Hey! Martin!" He screamed to me as I was walking away."Talk to me!?"
-"I don't know what to say." I answered plainly.
-"I didn't mean anything, the thought just struck me."
-"I know, but that doesn't change the fact that you someday will leave and all I can do is watch you do it."
-"Please Martin. Please! Don't think about that now. You just told me that."
-"I will try" I couldn't resist his eyes. I would probably come with him if he would ask me.
-"Thanks. You're wonderful. You know that."
We hugged again. I could hear him sobbing and I took his head in my hands and kissed him.
-"Everything will be alright. I promise." I whispered to him.
-"It will?" He asked with a cracked voice.
-"I promise you that we'll work it out. I promise."
We continued to hug and walked out of the park holding hands. We took a cab and he dropped me of at my hotel. I waved him goodbye and walked inside. Once I got inside I looked out the windows in the hotel lobby and saw him standing there with his head down. He got inside the cab and it drove away. I walked slowly towards the elevator and pushed the button. I sat down on a sofa and were in deep thoughts as my cell started to ring. I took it out of my pocket and answered. The number was unknown to my phone so I got curious. I kinda hoped it was from a certain person.
-"Hello." I said a bit confused.
-"Hi. It's me!" Lance said in the other end.
-"Hi!" I said again very thrilled.
-"I found your note."
-"I thought it was good to know."
-"It was. I just wanted to give you a call and say that I discovered it."
-"Ok. The number you called from, is that your personal cell-number?"
-"Yea. Why?"
-"Do you mind if I add you in my phonebook?"
-"Not at all. Kinda hoped you would."
-"Feel free to call anytime."
-"I will remember that. I need to go now but we'll talk later."
-"I need too."
-"See ya."
-"See ya too."
I saved his number in my phonebook and stepped into the elevator and pushed the button to my floor. Wonder if Jennifer is up? ________________________________
