Matt and Jon

Chapter 19

Going Home

Todd awoke early. The smell of coffee alerted him to the fact that his mother was up and getting ready for work. He got out of bed and stretched. After a brief detour to the bathroom, he made his way to the kitchen wearing nothing but the boxers and t-shirt that he’d slept in. He kissed Jane on the cheek and wished her a good morning. If she was surprised by her son’s attire, she didn’t say so. She was glad that he didn’t feel self-conscious in front of her. She mused to herself that his having made good friends had done a lot to boost his self confidence.

“What are you doing up so early on one of your last few precious vacation days?” She asked as she poured Todd a glass of O.J.

“I told the guys that I’d meet them and go running. They like to go in the morning before it gets too hot.”

Jane smiled at him. “It sure beats being cooped up in here with your video games.”

She was running late, so with a kiss on the top of Todd’s head, she left for the mall.

Todd found a pair of running shorts and his sneakers and rolled his bike out of the hallway and headed for the reservoir to meet up with the others. As he was chaining up his bike, he saw Chet’s car pull in to the clearing that served as an unofficial parking lot.

Matt, Jon, Andy and Chet got out of the car and headed toward him. Chet was the first to speak.

“Hey Todd! I’d have picked you up if I’d known you were coming.”

“Nah, I told Matt I’d ride my bike. I live a lot closer.” Todd answered the friendly giant.

They went down to the head of the path and started stretching. It had been awhile since they had been running, so they all agreed to take it easy.

The morning sun felt good on their faces as they ran along the path. They took their customary break at the end of the path, chatting about anything that popped into their minds. The run back was easier, as they were well warmed up. Andy took the lead and picked up the pace a bit. Jon would have been last in line, but Chet slowed down to stay behind him. He was determined not to let them out of his sight for an instant. Jon was equally determined to keep up with the others, and he pushed himself to close the distance.

Just as they rounded the last bend in the path, Jon and Chet almost collided with the other boys who were standing as if frozen and staring toward the parking lot. It only took a second to see that they were looking in horror at the remains of Todd’s bike. The tires had been slashed and the wheels were bent as if someone had worked them over with a baseball bat. The stuffing and springs protruded from the slashed saddle. On closer inspection they noticed that the headlights and taillights of Chet’s car had also been bashed in, and a huge dent had been pounded into the hood.

“Shit!” Chet exclaimed as he started to scramble up the hill.

“Wait Chet. Don’t mess up the scene before the police get here!” Matt yelled after him.

Chet stopped and resignedly came back over to where Matt was calling Detective Gordon on his cell. The detective said to stay on the line until the squad car he’d dispatched arrived in case whoever had done this was still in the area. The squad car arrived in minutes and Detective Gordon said he’d be there soon.

The two young cops were the same ones that had been at Jon’s house when the bricks were thrown. They shook their heads and looked at the damage. They looked around the area for signs of other people, but didn’t see anything, so they waited with the boys for Detective Gordon. They made some preliminary notes about who owned the bike and the car. The younger of the two officers offered his sympathy.

“I’m really sorry guys, I know this must be really tough on you.”

Jon sat on the grass. “Thanks. This is all our fault. If we hadn’t gone to that stupid parade…”

“This is NOT your fault!” The older officer said forcefully. “Whoever did this committed a crime. A serious crime, and you’re the victims.”

Jon was not consoled. “Todd, I’m really sorry about your bike, and Chet…look at your car!”

Chet shrugged and gave Jon a weak smile. “They’re just things, Jon. They can be fixed. Don’t worry about it.”

“It’s just that being our friend is a dangerous thing to be. I don’t want to drag any of you into this any further.”

Todd sat down next to him on the grass and put an arm around his shoulders. “Being friends with people like you is what I’ve dreamed about for years. I’m not going to let some goons mess that up. Chet’s right. They’re just things. Don’t let them get you down, Jon. None of us are going anywhere!”

Chet looked at Matt. “Yeah, and if I had the courage that you two do, I’d be in the same boat anyway.”

He realized he’d outted himself to the two officers, but he didn’t care, they seemed like nice guys.

Detective Gordon pulled up and got out of his car. He investigated the damage and conferred with the two officers for a few minutes. He came over to where the boys were waiting.

“Well, sorry to have to meet again under these circumstances boys.” He said as he shook all of their hands. “We can’t be sure it’s the same people who threw the bricks, but if I had to guess, I’d say it was. Did anyone follow you?”

Chet shrugged. “I didn’t notice anyone, but then again I wasn’t looking.”

“We don’t think it was aimed at either of you, even though it was your possessions that were vandalized. The fact that both the bike and the car were hit suggests against it. It could be random, but what with the brick incident, I’m not so sure.”

When he’d gotten all of the information he could out of them, he suggested that the officers put Todd’s bike in the trunk, and follow Chet to a repair shop because of the broken tail lights.

As the officers were loading the bike, he added, “If our friend here doesn’t have the money, strongly suggest to the service station that they’d be doing the department a favor if they extend him credit.”

The young officer laughed. “We’ll take him to my cousin’s shop. He’ll fix him up!”

The mood was somber as they followed the officer’s directions. At the shop, they were able to replace the headlights and put new bulbs in the taillights which they covered with red plastic until they could get the appropriate red lenses. It wasn’t beautiful, but it was legal. Chet thanked the officer’s cousin and promised to be back with the money the following day. They transferred Todd’s bike into Chet’s trunk and headed for the Kent’s house.

Matt and Jon had called home on the way, so they weren’t surprised to see Matt’s parents pulling up just as they arrived. Ann came rushing over to Matt and hugged him.

“Matt, are you alright?” She wailed.

“Mom, it’s okay. No one got hurt.” Matt consoled her.

She held him at arm’s length and gave him the once over to confirm that fact for herself. Bill ran his hand over the damage to Chet’s hood and shook his head. Chet removed the damaged bicycle from the trunk.

“Here’s the other casualty.” He sighed as he carried the bicycle up the driveway.

Shelley and Dan welcomed them into the living room and got cold drinks for everyone. When they were all seated, Bill looked around the circle.

“Chet, Todd, I just want you to know that I’ll pay for the damage. There’s no reason why you should be out any money over this.”

Dan quickly agreed, and offered to pay half. Todd and Chet both shook their heads. Todd spoke for both of them.

“We don’t even know if this is related to the other time, and my mom won’t accept any money. She’d never let me either.”

Jon got Todd’s attention. “You have to let us help you in some way. We’re in this together.” Everyone agreed, and Todd said he’d talk to his mom.

They all went in to the kitchen and started making breakfast. The mood lightened somewhat as they began to eat, and soon they were almost back to normal. Tom had called, and they were due to arrive in time for dinner. All of their furniture had been put in storage, and they were bringing a u-haul trailer with some of their other possessions. Tom asked if the boys could be there when he arrived to help unload the boxes into the Kent’s garage for the time being.

Bill and Ann said their goodbyes, confident that everything was all right for the moment. Todd promised his mother to do some chores around the apartment and said he should get going soon too. Andy had agreed to go shopping with Marla. Chet volunteered to drop them off on his way to pre-season football practice.

The boys went to the den and popped in a video. About half way through the movie, Dan and Shelley came in to say they were going shopping. They said they’d only be gone for a couple of hours and that they’d lock the door when they left.

“I don’t think there’ll be any problem, so long as you stay here. Call if you need us.” Dan said as he fished in his pocket for his keys.

When they heard the sound of the car starting, Matt turned to Jon with his best seductive expression. A wicked smile spread over Jon’s features.

“I know that look.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows at Matt, who without a word, clicked the tv off and stood up.

He took Jon by the hand and pulled him off the couch and led him to the stairs. By the time they reached Jon’s room, both of them had tented out the front of their running shorts. They practically fell into an embrace and kissed each other desperately while their boners jousted together, slipping against the silky fabric. Matt reached down and began to rub Jon’s crotch, which brought sighs of ecstasy from Jon.

“Unghhh, Matt, slow down. We haven’t been completely alone together in awhile. I want to get naked and do this right.”

Matt broke the embrace, and pulled off his t-shirt and threw it across the room in one motion. He pushed off his running shoes and danced around on one leg at a time, ripping off his socks. Jon followed suit, and soon they were tossing their briefs on the pile of clothes in the corner and heading for the bed. They kissed for a long time exploring each other’s mouths with their tongues and their bodies with their hands. Jon reached a hand between them and caressed Matt’s balls in his hand, gently squeezing them as Matt moaned in his mouth. Matt found Jon’s butt cheeks and rubbed and squeezed them in his hands as they ground their crotches together.

Matt slid down Jon’s body and began lightly tonguing the shaft of his cock and swirling his tongue around his balls. Jon was in heaven as Matt took the head of his dick in his mouth and teased it with his tongue before sliding his lips down his shaft. He brought him just to the edge of orgasm before he withdrew his mouth and focused his attention lower. Jon got some lube out of the night stand drawer and tossed it to Matt who eagerly went about preparing his partner.

When he felt he was ready, Jon moaned “Make love to me Matt.”

Matt positioned himself between Jon’s legs and slid into him. Jon loved being full of Matt’s cock and pressed his feet against his butt, trying to get more of it inside. When Matt’s pubes were brushing Jon’s cheeks, he lowered himself and began licking and sucking his neck and face as he rocked his hips slowly in and out. Matt knew how much Jon was enjoying the ride, and was determined to make it last as long as he could. He lasted a good ten minutes, reducing Jon to a wriggling mass beneath him. Jon whimpered with joy. A drop of Matt’s sweat fell from his forehead onto Jon’s lips which he greedily licked into his mouth. Matt involuntarily increased his pace as noises of passion escaped his throat.

“Ungggggg…Oh God, oh God…I love you…I’m cumming!!!!!!!!”

Matt pumped his load into Jon and collapsed in his arms. The two drained, sweat drenched boys clung to each other as they cried for joy. Matt began to soften and he pulled out of Jon. It was only then that he realized that Jon had cum between their bodies. When they’d shared a loving kiss, Jon looked deep into Matt’s eyes. Without a word, they shared the secret knowledge that their lovemaking had gone beyond anything they had ever experienced before. With a smile on his face and a tear in his eye, Jon hugged Matt tightly against his chest.

Matt reluctantly broke the embrace. “We’d better shower before the others get here.”

“Yeah, as much as I love you like this, I think everyone else would want us to.” Jon said with a giggle as he got up and headed for the bathroom.

As they finished getting dressed, they heard a car in the driveway. Jon looked out the window to see Uncle Tom and the boys getting out of the car and heading to the door. Matt and Jon bounded down the stairs to greet them. After a round of hugs, the travelers all headed off to various bathrooms while Jon and Matt headed to the kitchen to fix them all a snack and something to drink. When they were all seated around the kitchen table, they told them about the incident at the reservoir. Jon could see the anger in his uncle’s eyes.

“It’s okay Uncle Tom, no one got hurt, that’s the main thing.”

Tom’s expression softened into a smile. “Yeah, Jonny, I guess you’re right. It’s just that it makes me so mad to think that someone would do this. Even at my worst, I was all talk. The idea of hurting someone or damaging their possessions never occurred to me. Why can’t people just mind their own damn business? You guys aren’t hurting anyone.”

The sound of Dan and Shelley’s car in the driveway brought them all to the door.

“Hey, you made good time.” Dan said, shaking Tom’s hand.

LittleTom latched onto his aunt and gave her a big hug. “It’s so good to be here, Aunt Shelley.”

She had spoken to Tom a few times during the week, so she knew what an emotional time this had been for them. Especially for her youngest nephew. He looked up at her and she brushed the hair out of his eyes. She gently kissed his cheek.

“Welcome home, LittleTom.”

They all glanced out the door to see Jane and Todd pulling up at the curb. The boys ran out to greet him. Tom strolled out to the car as Jane was getting out.

“Hey there, welcome back!” Jane called over the roof of the car.

“Thanks. It’s good to see you again.”

Jane smiled. “Well, I was just dropping Todd off to help unload the trailer. I thought I’d come in and say hello.”

“Well, I’m glad you did.” Tom said as he felt eight pairs of eyes looking on.

He cleared his throat. “Yes, well…would you like something to drink?”

Jane laughed. “Sure, I’d like that.”

Shelley invited her in while Tom, Dan and the boys attacked the boxes in the trailer. They formed a sort of bucket brigade and in no time had their possessions stored away in the garage. They found Jane and Shelley chatting amiably in the kitchen.

“Dad, I was thinking,” Jon began, “school doesn’t start for another week, and…”

“Jonny, you know what I said about the sleepovers. We have to get back into a routine around here. It’s going to be harder with Ryan and LittleTom here.”

The boy’s faces fell. It was Tom who came to the rescue.

“Dan, they haven’t seen each other in a week, and I’m sure they have a lot of catching up to do. Besides, with them all here, maybe you and Shel and Jane and me could go out for a nice dinner. I’ll buy the pizza. I want to treat them for helping out with our stuff, what do you say?”

Dan laughed. “Geez Tom, you’re worse than the boys!”

“You could always get your way with mom and dad too!” Shelley laughed, patting her brother on the back. “I’ll call Ann and Bill and see if they want to come too.”

Jane went home to change and Tom went to wash the road dust off and put on a clean shirt. By the time the grownups were ready to go, the boys were in the den watching a video and happily munching on pizza.

Jon savored his first bite. “Ummm, I haven’t had pizza in two months. Food of the gods!”

Matt snuggled up to him. “You deserve a treat. You’ve been so good.”

Jon flashed him a smile. “Oh, I don’t know…I’ve had plenty of treats.”

“Knock it off you guys, I’m trying to watch the movie!” LittleTom piped up from his position on the floor.

“Yeah,” Eric agreed, “Get a room, you two.”

Shelley, Dan and Tom came to the door and announced that they were leaving. Jon paused the video and followed them to the kitchen door to make sure it was locked behind them. Just as he was about to close the door, he paused.

“Uh, dad. I know it’s a special privilege to have the guys over tonight. Thanks. I love you.”

Dan messed up his hair. “Rules are made to be broken, Jonny. Have a good time tonight. I love you too!”

Jon rejoined the others and they finished watching the video in companionable silence. When it was over, they set up their air mattresses and sleeping bags and took their outer clothes off and settled in to play some cards.

Ryan tossed the cards around the circle. “I love camping out like this with you guys. It’s sorta like…the gay scouts!”

This got a laugh out of everyone but LittleTom. “Hey, I’m not gay. You’re always trying to leave me out!”

Eric put an arm around him. “That’s okay, little buddy. You can be an honorary member.”

“Yeah,” Todd agreed. “the token breeder!”

This brought howls from the others when all of a sudden, Jon went silent.

“Shhh, you guys. I thought I heard something.”

“What?” Matt whispered.

“Sounded like someone at the kitchen door.”

“Is it locked?”

“Yeah, I locked it myself.”

LittleTom went stiff. “That sounds like the front door.”

“I’m calling the cops.” Matt said as he fished around in the pile of clothes for his cell phone.

“No wait.” Jon said. “I’ll go see if it’s someone we know first.”

Just then, they heard the window in the study slide open, followed by a crash and a muffled curse.

“Everyone stay quiet!” Matt whispered as he flicked off the lights and dialed 911.

He whispered to the operator the situation and the address, and she told him to stay on the line. He held the glowing phone to his lips so Todd could understand what he was about to say.

“If he comes in here, we have to try and get him on the ground. Ryan and Eric, try and tackle his legs. Once he’s down, everyone grab an arm or a leg. Jon, sit on his chest. We have to keep him down until the cops get here. LittleTom, you be ready to let them in.”

They all nodded, and Matt closed the phone. He cursed himself, realizing that he’d just disconnected with the 911 operator.

They saw the light from the hallway under the crack of the door. The sound of footsteps seemed to be getting closer. When the door to the den swung open, a tall figure loomed in the doorway, completely silhouetted by the light from the hallway.

“Now!” Matt yelled, as Ryan and Eric lunged for his legs, toppling him to the floor.

They all grabbed on to the intruder and held him down. Jon planted himself on his chest and managed to squeak out in a trembling voice, “Don’t try anything. The Police are on the way!”

They heard a cough and a weak laugh in the darkness. Finally the intruder managed to gasp, “that’s a hell of a welcome home, little brother.”

“Sam!” They all yelled in unison as they relaxed their grips.

“You scared the shit out of us!” Jon shrieked as he moved off his chest.

“I can see that!” Sam answered, wiggling his left arm. “Hey, it’s me, get off, will ya?”

Matt realized the problem. “That’s Todd. He doesn’t know it’s you. Don’t struggle, Sam, you’ll freak him out!”

“Okay, but get the lights on quick…he’s cutting off the circulation!”

When the lights snapped on, Todd blinked his eyes a few times and stared down in disbelief.

“Sam!” He gasped, echoing the others.

“Yup, at your service…uh, can I have my arm back now?” Sam said, grinning up at him.

“Oh! Sorry!”

“That’s okay, killer.” Sam said as he clenched and unclenched his fist a few times to get the blood flowing again.

The door bell began to ring and they heard banging on the door. Matt rolled his eyes. “I forgot about the police.” He sighed, as they all made their way to the front door.

Sam opened the door. “Officers, there’s been a mistake. I’m Sam Kent. I was just coming home from college and I didn’t have a key. I came through the window, and they thought…”

Sam noticed the officer’s faces relax as their hands dropped from their holsters. They were trying not to laugh, but they couldn’t help it, and began to guffaw out loud. The boys looked around at each other, and realized that they indeed made an amusing sight. Six disheveled boys in their underwear, and Sam standing in the middle of the group with his shirt half untucked and his hair a mess. The boys began to laugh too. When they had calmed down a little, Sam grinned at the officers.

“You don’t have to worry about these guys, they took me DOWN!”

“I’ll bet they did! It’s a good thing we got here when we did, they might have killed you!” The younger officer said, loosing it again as he cast his eye around the group that he would later refer to at the station house as the “underwear avengers.”

“Seriously though,” Matt offered, “we’re sorry we got you here under false pretences.”

“No, you boys did the right thing. If it happens again, you shouldn’t hesitate to call us. That’s what we’re here for. We shouldn’t be laughing, you guys really kept your heads.” The older officer assured them.

Jon smiled. “Still, we must look pretty funny! Can we get you anything?”

The younger of the two seemed to be thinking. “Uh, got any doughnuts?”

Jon stammered, “hang on, I don’t think so, but I can…”

Everyone in the room erupted in laughter.

“It’s a cop joke, kid. You all have a good night, and don’t forget to lock the windows.”

When the officers had gone, they all went back to the den and polished off the remaining pizza.

Sam told the boys how he’d been talking to Dan earlier in the evening and he told them about the sleepover. He didn’t have any classes the next day, so he figured he’d surprise them.

“Well it sure worked!” Jon exclaimed. “Sam, if you didn’t have your key, why didn’t you just ring the bell?”

“Most of the lights were out and the car was gone, so I figured you went out for ice cream or something. I was just going to come in here and watch T.V. until you got home. I never meant to scare you. Dad told me what happened this morning. You guys must have been freaking out.”

Matt laughed. “You could say that. I was so relieved to hear your voice.”

“Anyway, it’s great to be here.” Sam said, stripping off his clothes. “Who’s up for some cards?”

They all collapsed on the floor and dealt the cards around the circle.

Sam looked around at them. “I’ve been really worried about you all, not being here, and it’s a big relief to me to know that you can take care of yourselves. I haven’t been tackled that hard in four years of football. I’m really proud of you guys.”

The conversation after that mostly revolved around speculation about Tom and Jane.

Todd smiled. “I think it would be so cool if they, you know, got together. I’ll always love my dad and all, but mom really deserves to be with someone she loves.”

“Yeah,” LittleTom interjected, “our dad does too. He never complains but I can tell he’s lonely. Maybe moving here was the best thing for all of us. Maybe we can all start fresh” He stated with a wink at Eric. Eric returned the wink and gave him a broad smile.

Dan and Shelley dropped off Ann and Bill and headed home for Pine Street. Tom had picked up Jane in his own car and was taking his time dropping her off. Shelley’s face lit up at the sight of the familiar Volkswagon in the driveway as they approached the house.

“Look Dan! Sam’s home!”

Dan chuckled. “I thought he might be. I spoke to him before, and I told him about the boy’s last hurrah. He sounded a bit homesick to me.”

They went down the hall, completely unaware of the drama that had transpired earlier. When they got to the den, they found all the boys asleep amid scattered cards and empty pizza boxes. Shelley smiled up at Dan.

“I’ll get the camera.” She whispered as they tiptoed down the hall.

Hi All,

I hope this finds you all well.

It looks like everyone is getting paired up exept Todd and LittleTom. Maybe once school starts, Cupid's arrow will find it's mark. I've heard from a lot of regulars, as well as some new names. I'm not going to list them all this time in the interest of getting this posted tonight before I collapse!

Please write with comments or suggestions. I answer each email as fast as I can get to it. I always love hearing from you!

Love, Jon
