Merlin looked at himself in the mirror, the words which had flowed so easily moments before, seemed distant and difficult to utter. Merlin looked away in disgust, how could he have so much trouble with this, he had rehearsed it a million times. Gathering his courage he looked into the mirror and said, "Arthur, I know you think of me as just an idiot... but there is more to me than you think..." His voice felt feeble in his own mouth and his legs felt like a pair of overcooked noodles. "You see... I ... the thing is..." Wow, thought Merlin, I really do sound like a clotpole. Merlin looked at his own reflection and said aloud, "I've never had trouble lying to Arthur. So why, now that I want to tell him the truth, do I sound like a moron?"
This thought had plagued the young man for the last few weeks, while he had saved Arthur's life, yet again, and Arthur thought Merlin to be incompetent. Merlin couldn't bear the thought of lying to Arthur anymore, it was starting to physically manifest itself in his actions. No longer wanting to hide his true self from Arthur, Merlin decided that he would tell him during breakfast one morning, or maybe dinner... no, thought Merlin, you've put this off long enough. Gaius had stepped out of the Castle to care for an elderly gentleman in the lower portion of Camelot and Merlin had begun to practice his speech yet again.
"Arthur, you've always been like a brother to me and I... I can't lie to you anymore... but at the same time, I'm afraid of what you'll think of me." This felt better. Now, thought Merlin, all I have to do is wrap this up well. "I need you to promise to keep this just between us, ok? I am trusting you with my life Arthur... I have magic." The words came out in a gust. Merlin felt his pulse race and his hands and legs start to shake with nervousness and fear. He lost himself in the two scenarios which he ran through his head many times.................................
Arthur "What?"
Merlin "I have magic."
Arthur (laughing) "Right and I'm Morgana's brother..."
Arthur's eyes started to lose their glow from his laugh when Merlin stood still and looked into Arthur's eyes. Arthur then stopped, got up from his chair and meal, and said, "Merlin are you telling the truth? This is no time for one of your little pranks... this is serious." Merlin looked down and thought pleadingly, Please Arthur... oh please... Arthur then said, "Alright then, I can't say I believe you, so I'll need you to demonstrate this magic if you can..." Arthur thought, If he's telling the truth I may regret this moment. Merlin looked up and said, "What do you want me to do?" He looked at Arthur with a sidelong glance. The Prince was sporting his pair of sleeping shorts, a soft, black material that had easy access flaps in the front or back, his bare chest was lightly dusted with blond fur that perfectly framed his muscled physique and blond hair. Merlin had admired the Prince's muscles while oiling and cleaning his armor after battle or during a tournament. Once, while Arthur was changing clothes, Merlin had nearly rubbed Arthur's gleaming chest which was rife with sweat from an exhausting battle. But now, Merlin noted, Arthur's muscles were tensed and his normally powerful jaw, was set in a determined way. Merlin did not know what the Prince was thinking but he knew that this moment might be the only time he could express it.
Arthur said nothing but turned away and said, "make the candle light, flame leap high, and make something levitate." Merlin looked into Arthur's eyes and saw that the Prince actually was nervous. Merlin looked at the nearest candle and said, "Fortano Fordigumar" his eye shone with golden brillance and the candle flickered alight, Arthur stared in disbelief. Merlin then said, "Halikon.... Harack!" the candle flame leapt into the air, slightly scortching the ceiling. Arthur looked at Merlin just as his eyes shone for the final time and the plate holding the Prince's breakfast floated over and hung suspended in front of Arthur, who was shocked. Finally Arthur broke the silence,
"Merlin... I have no choice to place you under arrest for the use of magic and crimes against the kingdom of Camelot." His voice was emotionless and Merlin looked at him, expecting him to break into a smile and laugh. When nothing happened Merlin felt his panick start to rise in his throat, he stammered out an apology and tried to say that he didn't use his magic for evil things. He said that he was protecting Arthur until he became king. Arthur ignored him and called for his guards. As they entered Merlin felt his stomach sink and he was sure that Arthur was going to have him executed. Arthur pointed to Merlin and said, "Guards, place Merlin in the dungeons for the use of magic, my father will sentence him at the soonest possible time." The two guards took Merlin by the arms and began to drag him away. Merlin looked at Arthur with such sadness that the Prince could not help but feel a pang of grief as his most loyal servant was pulled away, probably never to be seen again. Arthur left Merlin to his fate and learned that the following morning he was beheaded. The moment he knew Merlin was dead, Arthur felt his heart break and his soul felt empty without the young man's constant bothering.
Merlin shook himself from the nightmare and said to himself, "Arthur wouldn't do that to me. He cares about me. Right?" He asked his reflection. Then Merlin told himself that the other scenario was much more likely.......................
Arthur "What?"
Merlin "I have magic."
Arthur (laughing) "Right and I'm Morgana's brother..."
Arthur's laugh continued until he saw how serious Merlin's expression was. He then looked at Merlin as though seeing him for the first time. Had the slender young man truly been a practitioner of magic, which was forbidden. Even if he did, Merlin is probably too much of an idiot to be harmful to anybody, thought Arthur decisively. Nonetheless, I have to determine just how much he has at his disposal. Arthur stood up from his meal and said, "Show me your magic, Merlin. You know I don't believe this and if this is a practical joke, it isn't funny." Merlin looked at a nearby candle and said, "Fortano Fordigumar" setting the candle alight. Arthur stepped back and said, "Coincidence." Merlin's eyes glowed and the prince's food levitated over to him. Arthur moved away from the plate and said nothing. Merlin looked into the Prince's eyes and saw betrayal and a look that Merlin didn't quite understand.
"What are you going to do with me?" Merlin's body was on edge and his whole heart and soul felt exposed. Arthur looked at Merlin for a long while, feeling torn between his duty to turn Merlin in to his father, his friendship with Merlin that had developed during their many hours together, or his own attraction to the young man. In his heart he felt betrayed by Merlin because he used magic and Arthur never realized. But at the same time he knew that Merlin couldn't say anything without this situation coming up. Arthur felt his heart being pulled by Merlin's honestness and how much courage he had to stand before Arthur and tell him. The Prince felt a connection with Merlin that he had always ignored before, an attraction to the slender young man, his innocence and mirthful gaze, his earnest work and his smile. Arthur knew he could not publicly act upon his desires but had hoped one day he and Merlin would be able to get to know one another better while they were alone. This new information made Arthur feel conflicted and he wasn't sure how long he could maintain his composure. Finally, Arthur said, "Why tell me now?" Merlin looked up and said softly, "I have always wanted to tell you, but was afraid of what you would think. I know what your father thinks of magic and was afraid if you knew, you would have me killed or better yet, run me through yourself..."Merlin's voice was quavering. Arthur heard the tremble in Merlin's voice and felt his heart break as he thought, I couldn't run you through Merlin, I care too much for you. "...I've only ever tried to protect you Arthur." Merlin finished. Arthur scoffed at this, "You what? Merlin who hides behind trees at the first sign of trouble or falls to the ground as soon as melee breaks out on a battlefield... right."
Merlin watched Arthur, hoping against hope that the Prince would still consider him a friend. Arthur walked over to Merlin and gently placed his hand upon Merlin's shoulder. "Merlin, even though this goes against my father's wishes... I can't lose you as my servant or as my friend. I shall keep your secret." Merlin's heart nearly burst with emotion and so he lunged forward and hugged Arthur. Arthur, who was taken aback, felt his body respond to the intimate situation, he quickly pushed Merlin away and said, "Idio-...." until he saw that Merlin looked hurt and his eyes began to fill with tears. "I thought you would accept me for who I am." {{Pause=0.5}} His voice was wraught with emotion and grief. Arthur immediately felt his heart break as he realized how much he had hurt Merlin. He made a move toward Merlin to try and recover from the gaffe. Merlin put up his hand and said, "Obi-dai" Arthur saw his eyes glow and felt a wall of air preventing him from reaching him. Arthur struggled to break through as Merlin turned and fled the room, covering his head with his cloak. Arthur tried to say through the barrier, "I'm sorry..."
After the wall had dispersed, Arthur ran after Merlin, finding him not far down the hallway, head in hands silently shaking from sobs that wracked his whole body. Merlin looked up as he heard footsteps and saw Arthur. He only put his head down again and pointed Arthur away from him. Arthur, didn't mind him and sat down next to his one true friend. "Merlin, I'm sorry about... what happened in there... I didn't mean..." He fumbled for words to express his apology, to no avail. Finally, after some diliberation Arthur put his arm around Merlin and gave him a sideways hug. Merlin looked up, eyes red from the tears he had cried. Arthur couldn't stand it any more and leaned toward Merlin. Taking the young man's head in his left hand, Arthur cradled Merlin and then leaned in closer. Inches from his face, Arthur felt Merlin's ragged breath touch his neck and Arthur immediately felt his dick come to life. Arthur moved the final inches and gently kissed Merlin on the lips. Arthur felt his whole body tingle from the gentle lips and Arthur felt a primal instinct to protect Merlin.
Merlin, who had been just about to thank Arthur for giving him his support, felt the intimacy of the situation seconds before the kiss had happened. The hug had let Merlin know that Arthur still cared about their friendship but it was turning into something more. As he felt Arthur move closer to his exposed head, Merlin wondered what the Prince was doing so close to him. As he felt the powerful man's hands reach back to carress the back of his neck, Merlin knew what Arthur was about to do. Merlin still was a little on edge from before and wasn't sure if he was reading the signals correctly, just as before. After what seemed to be a moment that lasted forever, Arthur's lips tentatively rested on his and Merlin felt the heat radiate from the prince. Merlin felt lost in that moment as his whole world fell away into oblivion and he experienced the kiss. His body shifted towards Arthur and his hands reached around to grab on to Arthur's back, just so the other man wouldn't pull away.
Arthur only pulled away from Merlin because he heard some guards approaching their location and he did not want to be seen in such a compromising position. He pulled Merlin to his feet and dragged him into his chambers. Merlin was still in awe that the prince had just kissed him. Arthur closed the heavy doors and locked them from the inside.
Let me know what you think... all comments are welcome and sometimes help me decide what characters I should incorporate.
