We drove the rest of the way to Ricky's house in silence. I could feel his eyes on me all the time. It made me feel so good to know I had someone like him in my life.

I slowed down as we came near to his street. I stopped outside his house, not driving into the driveway.

"So you'll pick me up later?" he asked. I looked at my watch. 3:30pm.

"Be ready by 8."

"Okay," he said. "Hey - you know you've never met my parents?"

"I've never been invited," I said, fluttering my eyelids and smiling.

"Come," he said. He got out of the car on his side, and came round to my side to come and collect me. I switched off my car and took the keys with me. Ricky walked up his short driveway and pressed the button on the intercom for his house.

"Hello?" a woman's voice asked. Probably his mom.

"It's me, mom." The gate buzzed and unlocked. He pushed it open and walked through it. I followed suite. His mom opened the front door for him.

"Hey mom, this is Jason. Jason, this is my mom - Sharon."

"Hi Mrs Becker," I said.

"Oh please Jase. - it's Sharon. Ricky's told me so much about you I feel like I know you already."

Ricky went crimson. I smiled.

"Hopefully not all bad things then?" I asked.

"Far from it," she said. I began to wonder just what Ricky had told his mom about me.

"Okay Jase," Ricky said, breaking the silence. "See you here at 8?"

"Yup," I said. "Nice meeting you, Sharon."

"You too, Jase." His mom went inside and was out of sight long enough for me to steal one more kiss from Ricky before I got back into my car and went home. I pumped Creed so loud on my stereo I thought I'd blow the speakers. I seem to do that when I'm excessively happy.

I was home in 10 minutes. He lived closer to me than I thought. I let myself in the front door.

"Mom, I'm home!" I shouted to the house.

"In here, Jase," my mom called from the kitchen.

"Hey," I said, walking up to her, giving her a kiss on the cheek and stealing a tomato from the salad. I was absolutely beaming.

"Hey yourself," she said, looking at me with a smile on her face. "What're you so happy about?"

"Oh, nothing," I said, smiling to myself.

"What you do today? Go out with Ricky again?" I was unsure of her tone in the way she emphasised the word 'again'.

"Uh, yeah. Went to the mall and caught a movie. Pretty chilled day, but it was nice. Goin' to Jake's party later."

"Okay," she said.

"And Ricky's sleeping here afterwards."

"Okay," she said, her smile broadening. I didn't know what to make of her behaviour. I grabbed another piece of the salad and bounced out the kitchen, up to my room.

As though by force of habit, I switched on my stereo. Eve 6 came blaring through. I made it softer before my mom had a chance to scream it up at me. I looked at my watch again. 5:30pm. I still had to kill some time before I had to get ready. I jumped onto my bed and played on my PlayStation for a while, then got bored and turned it off. I just sat on my bed for a while and thought about the day.

What was up with my mom? Why was she acting so weird? Did she know about me and Ricky? Maybe we were being around each other a bit excessively. And why was Ricky's mom so friendly? Did SHE know? Was Ricky out to his family?

I don't remember falling asleep, but I do remember that I was lost in thought. I had a million questions and I didn't know where to begin. All I did know that it was after 7 when I woke up, and I still had to shower, get dressed, and pick Ricky up. I jumped off my bed, ran accross the hall to the bathroom and turned on the shower. My mind raced back to the day at camp when Ricky and I had a little lovemaking session in the shower. My dick started to get hard. I didn't want to jerk off though - I was sure that would be taken care off later tonight, after the party.

I got out the shower and wrapped a towel around my waist. After pulling a few faces in the mirror, tensing my muscles and generally admiring myself (oh come on, you know you do it sometimes too), I walked back to my room.

I slipped on a pair of faded Diesel jeans, and a tight black top. I put on a pair of dark sneakers, walked back to the bathroom, did my hair, slapped on some aftershave, and headed downstairs, grabbing my keys.

"I'm off, Mom, see you later!"

"Behave, honey!" She did it again! Any more of these subtle hints and I think I'm gonna go mad!

I was outside Ricky's house just after 8. I was about to just hoot for him, but I decided to be polite and ring the intercom.

"Hello?" Ricky asked.

"Delivery service," I replied. "One sexy light haired boy, complete with hot car."

"Nope, sorry, I think you have the wrong place." I could hear him smiling over the intercom.

"Oh just let me in you little shit," I laughed. He did too, and buzzed the gate. We met halfway, him walking out the front door with his mom behind him. He had a bag slung over his shoulder, obviously a change of clothes for tomorrow.

"Hi Sharon," I said.

"Hello Jase," she replied. "You take care of Ricky, okay?"

"Of course," I said. He put my arm around his shoulder, and shouted goodbye to his mom.

We walked out to my car and Ricky hopped over the door again. I shook my head and smiled at him. He was quiet for a while.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothin," he said instantly.

"Rick...I can see something's wrong, boy." He sighed.

"I'm a bit nervous for the party."

"Why?" I asked.

"I dono. I know you asked Jake if it was cool, but I feel I'm gatecrashing a bit."

"You're overreacting. Just chill - it's gonna be a hectic party with so many people, he won't even notice me there, nevermind you."

"Thanks," he said. "So I'm so insignificant that no-one's even gonna notice me?"

I could hear he was just trying to be difficult.

"Oh you know what I mean," I said.

"I do," he said and gave me a kiss on the cheek and a pat on the crotch.

"Now now," I said. "You'll have to wait for later."

We arrived at the part about 5 minutes after that. As I suspected, there were cars all up Jake's driveway and around his street. I found a parking space quite far from the entrance to his house.

"Rick," I started. "About us, tonight.."

"I know, Jase. You don't have to feel bad. I know how you feel. So no touching tonight."

"Until we get home," I said, smiling.

"One last kiss?"

"Of course," I said, and gave him a kiss with a little bit of tongue.

"Mmmm," he said. "That should get me through the night."

"If you're having a shitty time, come find me, and we'll go home. Okay?"

"Okay," he said.

We walked in together, but for most of the night, I mingled and chatted with my other friends. I hadn't seen David in a while, and as I was speaking to some school friends, I looked over their heads and around the room for him.

"Jase!" I heard someone shout. The lighting wasn't fantastic, so I couldn't make out who it was.

"Hey," I said. As he leaned in to shake my hand, I realised who it was. His breath stank of beer and something else - probably weed.

"How you doing Mart? I haven't seen you since camp, bud."

"I know," he said. "What you been up to?" He was high as a kite. Smiling and laughing with every second word. I screwed up my face because his breath stank so much.

"Nothin' really hey. You still with that girl?" I asked.

"Naaaaaaaaaah buuud, me and that biaaaaaatch broke up aaaaaages ago." His words started slurring, and he started to become unsteady on his feet.

"Mart? Are you okay?"

"Ohhhhh, shit Jase, I don't feel so good..." I slung his arm over my shoulder and rushed him to the bathroom. He flew to the toilet, and threw up into it. He convulsed heavily for a few minutes, and then calmed down. I had closed the door so no-one would see him. He sat with his back propped up against the bathroom wall, head still next to the toilet bowl. He started crying.

"What? What is it Mart? Are you okay?" He couldn't speak he was crying so hard. I didn't know what else to do, so I just leaned over and hugged him. He cried into my shoulder. I was so scared - I didn't know what was wrong with him. His eyes poured for at least 10 minutes, and eventually, he calmed down and stopped. He looked me straight in the eye.

"Here," he said, handing me an envelope with my name on it.

"What's this?" I asked, about to open it.

"No," he said. "Don't open it until you get home."

"Why?" I asked.

"Just don't!" he snapped. He got up, wobbled steady onto his feet, and walked out the door.

"Hey Jase," he said.

"Yeah?" I asked, in a daze of confusion.

"Thanks," he said.

"You ready to go?" Ricky asked me. It was around 12:15am. Martin had disappeared, and I was still just as confused as I was earlier.

"Yo! Earth to Jase! Come in Jase!" he said.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, sure, lets go." I said. I found Jake (for the first time that night), and thanked him for the party. He was so drunk I doubted wether he'd remember anything in the morning, let alone me thanking him. Ricky and I walked outside to my car.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"I'm not completely sure," I said. I explained the whole story with Martin in the bathroom, him crying, and the letter.

"So what you think's in the envelope?" Ricky asked.

"No idea," I said. "I'll have to wait till I get home."

We drove the entire way in silence. Ricky could see I was troubled and lost in my thoughts. We were at my house by 12:30am. I opened the front door quietly, and tiptoed into the house. It wasn't that late, but I didn't like waking my mom up. I walked into her bedroom, shook her shoulder a few times, and let her know we were home. She mumbled something into her pillow and fell asleep again straight away.

I left her room and went up to my bedroom. Ricky was lying on my bed reading a magazine.

"Hey you," he said, putting the mag down.

"Hey," I said. I walked over to him, lay down next to him and gave him a kiss on the lips.

"So are you gonna open the letter already? I'm dying to know what it says!"

"Yeah," I said. I took the letter out of my coat pocket, and ripped open the envelope. I took out a piece of A4 sized white paper, and unfolded it. I turned pale and my heart dropped.

It was a suicide note. David was dead.

That's it guys. Hope you enjoyed it. Comments or suggestions to satoriboy2000@yahoo.com
