The Tales of Sol 87A

The Morning After

The morning greeted me with a sense of refreshment and profound contentment I hadn't felt in ages. I could hear the birds outside chirping their sweet songs.

Not so much a Disney Fairytale morning but damn near close. I glanced over at my love he sleeping so peacefully

My gaze lingered on Brian, who lay beside me, exuding an aura of peace akin to that of a seraphic being in slumber. The thought of disrupting his tranquility weighed heavy on my conscience; it felt wrong to wake him. With deliberate care, I eased myself out of the bed, mindful not to rouse him from his restful state. My feet moved silently across the floor gathering some clothes, as I tiptoed to the sanctuary of the bathroom for a shower.

Descending the stairs, my mind still in a haze of serenity, I was abruptly brought back to reality by AJ's unexpected presence. "How did you sleep last night?" he queried, his voice cutting through the quiet morning.

"Quite well, until you decided to frighten me into an early grave," I responded, my voice tinged with morning grogginess.

A sly grin spread across AJ's face as he retorted, "I would hope so, especially after last night's sexscapades," his words ignited a fiery blush that spread across my face.

"How in the world did you find out?" I asked, my voice tinged with annoyance that I hoped masked my embarrassment.

AJ's smirk was impossible to miss as he casually leaned against the wall. "Well, it wasn't exactly the stealthiest of nights, was it?" he teased. "Your fortress-like shutters went into overdrive. Sounded like a military operation. I came down to see if we were under siege, only to find you and Brian... well, let's just say, not under attack."

My face heated up, a blush spreading like wildfire as I recalled the passionate moments from last night. "You saw?" I managed to stammer out, mortified.

"Oh, I saw more than I bargained for," AJ chuckled, his eyes glinting with mischief. "First, the impromptu make-out session that would've given any romance movie a run for its money. Then, the symphony of thuds against the wall from the shower sexscapades. You guys really need to be more careful with the acoustics in this place."

I buried my face in my hands, the reality of the situation sinking in. AJ's laughter filled the room, but there was no malice in it--just the good-natured ribbing between friends.

"Next time, you might want to consider soundproofing the walls," he suggested, still grinning.

I couldn't help but laugh, the tension easing from my shoulders. "Noted," I said, shaking my head. "And thanks for the heads-up... I guess."

I blushed but AJ reassured me, "You two deserve it, Mike, I know we give you shit but none of us could be happier that Brian found you,"

A mixture of gratitude and embarrassment washed over me. "Thank you, AJ," I uttered, my emotions condensing into a fine mist in my eyes. It wasn't until we reached the kitchen that I uncovered the heart of my unsettled feelings.

"AJ, these past few months have been a whirlwind, and the one puzzle I can't solve is why you all chose to stay here," I confessed, my voice carrying a blend of confusion and earnest inquiry.

"I've never truly grasped what Jeff saw in me," I admitted as we made our way into the kitchen, where I began to prepare breakfast for our friends, still ensnared in slumber upstairs.

AJ, with a glint of jest in his eye, tried to lighten the mood. "I can't speak for Jeff, but I'm pretty convinced it's your cooking that's the main attraction," he suggested, his playful tone offering a temporary reprieve from the heavy air.

"That's not what I mean, AJ," I sighed, a sense of vulnerability enveloping me. "Among all the people in this vast world, I hardly see myself as noteworthy. I'm neither a celebrity, flush with wealth, nor do I hold any sway in popular circles."

AJ waved his hand toward the expansive layout of the home. "Mike, this place is a testament to your success. It's not just a house; it's two merged into one grand residence," he observed, his tone a mix of admiration and matter-of-fact.

I felt a warmth creep into my cheeks, a modest blush. "Well, I had Dave's help with a lot of it," I admitted, downplaying my own efforts.

"But didn't you buy the house next door and start all the work before Dave was even in the picture?" AJ prodded, his eyes locking onto mine.

I shifted uncomfortably. "What are you getting at, AJ?"

He leaned forward, his voice earnest. "You're selling yourself short. You've accomplished so much, and that was all you, long before we met," AJ insisted.

I shook my head, the self-doubt a familiar companion. "Dave was the one who stepped in right away. He took over the construction, handled the finances, the taxes... everything," I countered.

AJ's expression softened. "I know Dave. He wouldn't have done all that if he didn't see something special in you," he said gently.

I couldn't suppress the confusion in my voice. "But he didn't even look at my resume, AJ."

"That just shows the kind of person you are," AJ replied, his gaze sweeping over the room. "You have this impressive home, yet you don't show off your wealth. It's not about the money for you, and that's what Dave saw--the real value in you, beyond any resume."

"I don't see myself that special, I am still a nobody," I confessed

The room grew quiet as I laid bare my insecurities, the weight of my words hanging between us, a testament to the complexity of human connections and self-perception.

AJ, undeterred by my skepticism, continued his task of assembling the breakfast ingredients I'd listed off. His calm demeanor was a steadfast presence in the kitchen. "Mike, you're selling yourself short. You are far from being a nobody. you're anything but insignificant. True value doesn't stem from fame or riches."

I couldn't suppress a derisive chuckle at his assertion. "Easy for you to say, AJ. If Jeff Timmons hadn't brought me into Brian's orbit, I'd be just another face in the crowd to you guys."

At this, AJ paused in his bustling activity, his hand finding its way to my shoulder, imparting a sense of comfort and solidarity. "Mike, the circumstances of how we came into each other's lives, they're trivial. What matters is who you are as a person. It's your compassion, your modesty, and your authentic spirit that endeared you to us."

His words struck a chord, and I found myself battling tears that threatened to spill over. At that moment, it was crystal clear--their inclusion in my life reflected not just acceptance but a profound appreciation for who I was, beyond mere acquaintances. As we stood side by side, preparing the morning meal, a powerful sense of thankfulness washed over me, celebrating the serendipitous connections that had blossomed among us.

AJ meticulously placed the kitchen tools and ingredients within easy reach, settling against the counter to observe as I took charge of preparing breakfast. The friendship that was standing in the kitchen was evident, enveloped in warmth and quiet understanding.

Breaking the companionable silence, AJ shared a thoughtful admission, "You know, Mike, I'll concede that we don't always have the chance to truly connect with all our fans. There's simply too many, despite how much we wish otherwise." His voice carried a sincerity, underscored by a gentle firmness. "But that never meant we considered you--or anyone--insignificant," he asserted, his words imbued with a deliberate kindness.

"Hell, think about it; without supporters like you investing in our work, in our passion, where would we be? In your eyes, we might have been nobodies," AJ mused, flipping the narrative and highlighting the mutual gratitude and recognition that defined our relationship.

At AJ's gentle chiding, a wave of sheepish guilt washed over me. I hadn't considered the reality from their perspective, and my own insecurities now seemed trivial in comparison. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make such assumptions," I offered, my apology sincere.

"Mike, we're all trying to leave our imprint on the world," AJ mused as we busied ourselves with the morning's task, preparing a batch of French toast and scrapple. "Often, we either overshoot our goals or fall just short of them."

His words prompted another wave of doubt. "I still struggle to see what someone like Brian could find in someone like me," I confessed, the uncertainty clear in my voice.

"I can't speak on behalf of Brian, but since you've entered our lives, your actions have spoken volumes. You've always treated us with the highest regard and have been our staunchest ally in times of turmoil," AJ recounted. He continued, bringing up a past incident, "Remember when you took the heat after their agent came down hard on them? Jeff shared that story with us. It really showcased the caliber of your character."

As AJ lavished praise for my actions, including my roles as Guardian or Sol, I could feel my cheeks warm with a blush. Such titles were mere reflections of my beliefs, yet hearing him acknowledge their significance filled me with pride.

"Thank you, AJ," I said, moved by his words, and pulled him into a grateful hug.

AJ squeezed, returning my hug. "You've more than proved yourself, big man," AJ responded warmly as we resumed our breakfast preparations. It was then that he blindsided me with a question that sent my heart racing. "So, when are you planning to pop the question?"

"What!" The surprise made me whip around so fast, that batter splattered across the counter. AJ's feigned innocence did little to hide his curiosity.

"Yeah, yeah," I mocked, regaining my composure despite the jolt his question had given me. Our laughter mingled in the air, a reminder of the comfortable camaraderie we'd built, even amidst discussions of vulnerabilities and future plans.

"But even I can see how much you two love each other," AJ remarked

I turned crimson.

As the aroma of freshly prepared breakfast began to permeate the air, I tasked AJ with the gentle duty of rousing our friends from their slumber. It was during this serene moment of quiet anticipation that a familiar voice caught my attention. Turning around, I was greeted by the sight of Gaia standing in the heart of my kitchen.

"He is more than right, you know," I turned to see. Gaia was standing in my kitchen

"Gaia," I greeted my smile with a blend of surprise and warmth.

"I couldn't help but overhear your conversation," Gaia explained, a hint of apology in her tone, "and felt compelled to join you."

With a gesture that attempted to capture the essence of my feelings, I admitted, "I just can't shake the feeling that I've done nothing to deserve all this kindness."

Gaia then shared her wisdom, "Throughout history, the most profound changes were often instigated by those who spoke softly, while the boisterous claimed the glory."

"But, Gaia, I'm just an average guy. I haven't done anything extraordinary to warrant the attention or the gifts Earth has graced me with. I can't fathom what Brian and the rest of the Backstreet Boys find in me to offer their love and affection," I expressed, my gesture towards the stairs subtly including my friends above.

"Mike, since you were entrusted with Sol, you've often questioned your worth," Gaia began, her smile carrying a maternal warmth that made the knot of unworthiness within me tighten.

"You're more than you think." I heard from behind me. It was then that I felt another presence. Turning, I saw Brian approaching, a look of genuine affection painted across his face.

"Do you realize how much your actions yesterday meant to all of us?" Kevin's voice was added, coming into view.

"All I did was try to create an enjoyable day for you guys," I replied, trivializing my efforts as though they were of no consequence.

"You did far more than that, Mike," Brian interjected, joining his cousin. His words, reinforced by Kevin's nod of agreement, emphasized the impact. "You noticed our discontent and went out of your way to provide us with the reprieve we desperately needed."

Their affirmations, layered with heartfelt gratitude, served as a poignant reminder of the intangible gifts we offer each other - understanding, space, and the freedom to find joy. This moment, shared in the simplicity of my kitchen, illuminated the truth of my worth through the eyes of my friends.

"And when you managed to get us to open up after the ordeal with Dr. Israel... it really does take someone remarkable to do that," Nick chimed in, adding his perspective to the chorus of appreciation that filled the room.

Howie, not one to be left out, contributed his own insights. "You also mended a division among us that was so deep and well-hidden, that we ourselves were blind to its existence," he said, his voice laced with genuine admiration.

AJ, with a smile, wrapped up the sentiment neatly. "You've demonstrated, in your unique way, the profound truth that a single person can make a difference." The conviction in his voice resonated deeply with me. I was utterly taken aback, having never considered my actions to be all that significant.

Kevin, ever the bearer of humor, couldn't resist adding, "You know, I think Tony was about ready to recruit you after yesterday's practice." His laughter was contagious, a moment of lightness amidst the emotional revelations.

"Yeah, he kept probing about where our newfound zest had come from, and all we could say was that you had a hand in reigniting it," Nick elaborated with a grin. Their words bathed me in humility; I had never aimed for recognition, yet here it was, being presented to me in folds.

Gaia, witnessing the exchange, provided a capstone to the conversation. "As it stands, Mike, you're far from insignificant. You've demonstrated your worth unequivocally," she said, her voice a beacon of affirmation.

Overwhelmed, I stuttered in my response, "I... I had no idea I made such an impact." I was at a rare loss for words, the enormity of their sentiments washing over me in waves.

Brian approached and sealed his affirmations with a tender kiss. "Even without your superpowers, you're extraordinary," he said softly, his eyes alight with sincerity.

"Thank you, guys. I still don't feel like I've earned it, but thank you," I managed, my voice subdued, reflective of the emotional turmoil within.

One by one, they enveloped me in embraces, and the dam holding back my tears finally broke. It had been ages since I had experienced such unfiltered affection, and the warmth of it was both overwhelming and deeply comforting.

"Hey, consider it payback for all the love and support you've shown us, even before we knew you were out there, cheering us on as a fan," AJ remarked as the collective bear hug enfolded me.

In that moment, amidst laughter, tears, and heartfelt sentiments, I understood the true essence of friendship and impact. Despite my doubts, it was clear I had touched lives just as profoundly as they had touched mine.

The warmth of our shared embraces gradually faded, and with Gaia now journeying back to Hope Island, we turned our attention to the somewhat lukewarm breakfast sprawled on the table before us. Despite the slight dip in temperature, the meal retained its charm, an accolade Nick was quick to acknowledge. "Even cold, Mike, your French toast is unbeatable," he remarked, his words pulling laughter from everyone gathered around the table.

Amidst the convivial atmosphere, AJ's attention had wandered to the morning paper he'd unfolded beside his plate. His eyes scanned the pages until a particular piece caught his interest, offering a perfect segue into the day's plans. "Hey, it looks like there's another wrestling match happening today. How about we go watch?" he suggested, aiming to fill the day with an activity that required minimal decision-making yet promised maximum entertainment. The idea, devoid of any better alternatives, quickly gained unanimous approval.

It was settled then; our day would be spent immersed in the energy and excitement of a live wrestling event, a simple yet fitting conclusion to our morning's discourse--a testament to the comfort and ease that defined our camaraderie.

The Grunt was on the run, his breath coming in ragged gasps as the sound of his pursuers echoed ominously close behind him. Months of laying low, evading the relentless pursuit of that detestable Guardian, had instilled a false sense of security for the Marine. Yet, just when complacency had begun to take root, they found him. The surge of fear upon realizing he was being hunted anew led him to believe that JAG officers had finally come to drag him back to the dank confines of a cell. In a desperate attempt to preserve his freedom, he had lashed out violently, eliminating the first intruder who dared breach his sanctuary.

However, his flight came to an abrupt end when he encountered an imposing figure blocking his path. "That is as far as you go," the man declared, his voice steady and commanding.

"Screw you!" The Marine, driven by a mix of desperation and defiance, charged at the man, only to be met with the incapacitating jolt of a taser. His muscles seized, and darkness quickly claimed him as he crumpled to the ground.

As he lay vulnerable and defeated, the victor looked down upon him with a mixture of contempt and disinterest. "I have no doubt that even after we're done with you, that bastard will still wipe the floor with your carcass," the man sneered, his voice dripping with loathing.

Yet, despite his evident disdain, the man's plans for the Marine extended beyond mere recapture. "Nevertheless, we need you to confront a very dangerous nuisance," he divulged, the words reaching the Marine's fading consciousness as he drifted into unconsciousness. The night enveloped him, a foreboding shroud of uncertainty about what perilous task awaited him upon awakening.
