The Schuyler Fortune IV: Raspberry-3
Eric's reply was both verbal and non-verbal. Tears came to his eyes. "Where have you been? How did you know how to be who I needed? I don't want a hookup or a group or a temporary guy. I want my first man to be mine and for me to be his first and only."
"It's weird that we match so well. When I look at you, I can't see anyone else, ever. I would very much like to get old with you, although I don't insist on rushing that.
"OK if I hold you, Brent?"
Brent nodded, and they embraced. Eric put his face to Brent's neck and inhaled deeply. He smelled violets and life, felt warmth and pulsation, thrilled to it. They came closer and Brent put his mouth to Eric's and after a minute, Brent's tongue began to lick Eric's lips and wedge in between them.
Eric's lips grasped Brent's bottom lip and gently tugged on it. Eric opened his lips to let Brent slip his tongue in and felt Brent tasting his teeth and playing with his tongue. Eric decided he'd made the right decision to show Brent his home. Eric's tongue found Brent's ear, then both ears, his neck.
"Yes, Brent. I want to start something with you...and finish it with you. I want to adopt kids with you or get a surrogate mother... do you like kids?"
"Yes."
"Any kid would love you. If you'll take me, I'm all yours, Brent. Your heart is safe with me and my heart, I know, is safe with yours because even after knowing you a very short time, I know you enough to know that I love you."
"May I ask your dad to marry you with that in mind?
The immediate reply in crisp English was Brent's firm grasp of Eric's jeans-covered ass pulling Eric closer. "You're on, mate. I love you."
"Well...then...," Eric stumbled a little over his words. "We ought to marry first, I would guess. What do you say, Brent? You up for a lifetime?"
"Oh, Eric... yes, I'm up... and I'm in!" And with those words, Brent threw himself into Eric's arms and buried his face in Eric's neck to seal the deal. They both shed a few tears and promised each other they would be there for each other and comfort each other.
That evening, after a stimulating hour or two kissing and planning in Eric's suite, Brent and Eric ate in one of the formal dining rooms on the floor below, the table set as for a royal visit. The menu included both vegetarian and available meat options for Carol. Brent ate with the gang, Loren and Selene, their twins and Blossom Jones, John, Darren, Tom, and Carol who had flown in the day before having gotten a tip from Eric.
"I'm so lucky to get him for a brother-in-law." Selene told Loren, "He's nearly as nice as me!" John liked Brent from the start. Carol and Blossom thought he was just right for Eric.
Back in Darren's room after dinner, Tom sought reassurance from Darren. Darren was ready with the answer. "Hands and knees, buddy, I'll show you how I feel about ya." Without lube or ceremony, Tom's ass got stuffed, warmed and made happy. "Let me show you who loves you, Tom, and who's the boss. Tell me just before you come." Tom did, and Darren reached around with his hand and helped his lover, super-charged him, letting him know that Tom was still his very own 'farm-man'.
Late at night, morning in Great Britain, Eric and Brent called London. Brent asked his mom to get his dad and brothers on the speaker. Eric asked Robert for Brent's hand in marriage and was a little relieved to hear Robert say he was grateful for the courtesy and that he would like that very much. Linda cried a little.
Eric heard an initial gasp from Daniel who said, "Welcome to the family, Eric."
Forgetting the speaker was on, Frank asked his mom... "Does this mean they're going to have sex?" She frantically shushed him up as Daniel began to laugh out loud.
"Yeah, they might do that", Daniel eventually replied after the call terminated. That thought gave Daniel a shudder, but he had a dream about it that night.
Grandma Carol spoke with Eric later that evening. She asked him to consider what gift Brent might like from herself. He hugged her gently, thought for a minute, and told her he would ask Brent first. She smiled. "I think you love this guy."
It was a statement, not a question.
He gave her a hug and thanked her for being kind to him, her adopted grandson.
She looked at him for a moment, then told him she thought Michael and Marcus would have been very proud to see him grown, responsible, loving, and generous.
"You tell him to pick out anything in the Manhattan repository or in this basement," Grandma Carol said. "That's just advice dear. You own all of it anyway." He can have anything but my Caravaggio."
She smiled. "Between you and me, he can have it but only if he asks. It's my favorite and reminds me of those awful years in the sitting room in Flourtown. I'm going to will it to him someday anyway, since he's become an expert on the painter."
Brent and Eric explored the basement levels one, two, three and four during the days that followed.
They went to the Manhattan Repository as well where Brent was added to the list of allowed entrants. His passport, retinal scan and full palm-prints were added to the system and he was properly impressed with the Rembrandt just as the teenage Eric and Loren had been. The staff at the Repository were thrilled to meet him, dignified and respectful, handsome and he loved their Eric.
Brent chuckled at the story of the fright they had suffered at first and again when he heard about Loren almost dropping the ruby from Sri Lanka.
He held on of the companion rubies and tried to visualize Loren dropping one of them and when he put the ruby back he noted that his hand had been clenched tightly around the stone.
He looked through the bags of jewels for a day, replacing them. He looked through the displayed art objects at the upper floors of the museum as well.
On the flight back to Paris on Raspberry after dinner, Brent looked over at Eric who was looking at him tenderly and told him he had come to a decision about a gift. Brent told him that he did not want to choose his own wedding present.
"I want a gift from you, any gift that you choose, because that puts `you' in the gift. Painting or jewelry or our first child or sex every day or a kiss every morning or anything else; if you choose, it will mean everything to me. Things were never important to me; I haven't been used to having much. My real strength has been like yours, the enduring love of my family."
"You have become terribly important to me, Eric, your body, your mind, your life, your potential, your family, your love for me; what you might expect from me, I want to return."
"Whatever gift you give me will be as precious as another. Choose well, lover. I'm counting on you to choose what's best for both of us."
The Schuyler trust's office in London received a call from Eric asking them to apply for a marriage license in England for Eric and Brent. They were thrilled and went to work at the Register Office near Newbold. They certified Eric and Brent's age, that they were not closely related, that they were eligible to marry.
The chaplain of the college agreed to marry them. Flowers and decorations were ordered, a wedding breakfast planned by Brent's mom, a carriage with horses and footman hired and a limousine waited by to take them to Raspberry that evening.
The wonderful Anglican organist, Lawrence, waited to play the service. The damp, the sheep in the next-door field, the occasional auto horn, then a lot of security and people, Eric and Brent gorgeous in their tuxedos, the chaplain in his doctoral robe, the guests assembled, the music, the surprise guests...
They married at a small church on the Newbold College campus.
Their families showed up on time, nobody fainted, until Linda got close when King William and his Duchess showed up for the short service. Prince George wanted to be there. Princess Charlotte had another appointment that day.
A footman opened the maroon Rolls-Royce doors and all three Royals were ushered to the front and sat on Brent's side.
A short traditional service and afterward, "Thank you for allowing us to attend your wedding, Brent and Eric. I hope we'll see you at the Palace one day soon." The King smiled and shook their hands after the wedding. Prince George shook their hands and thanked them for their services to the British Museum as formal and solemn as only a teen can be... and the Royal family departed.
Goodbyes were said after the wedding breakfast and Eric and Brent left for Raspberry and Thailand. The Smythe family reviewed the day's memories and felt great about the ceremony and the guests. Daniel was a little quiet. Something was on his mind and he was trying to suppress it. He had glanced over to the Royal family a couple of times and seen...no, he hadn't, but he might have, but he couldn't have. He wondered what college he would attend, scrunched up his face, and what college that another person might attend and then with an effort, he thought about his grandmother's behind and started to laugh at himself. His parents weren't too sure about his sanity that night, but it had been a long day. Frank might have cared less about the festivities, though the cake was tasty, and the punch was wet.
There were a few awkward moments in the jet. The flight steward in Raspberry had stocked everything and yet some personal decisions had to be made on the spot... Brushing of teeth? Check. Mouthwash? Check. Top? Um. Bottom? Um. Prepping? Brent read a lot. Condoms? none-both were anal virgins, Lube? Check. initial shyness for Brent who showed himself to be a quick study, a sweet lover, and a gentleman, Eric's marble-hard cock tenderly wielded, awash in pre-cum, and a gentle entry, discovering the bump inside Brent, followed by physical fireworks between two healthy young men, very much in love.
In the big, firm, lovely bed in the rear of the Gulfstream over the background hum of the two Rolls-Royce BR725 turbofan engines, Brent sat astride his new husband in the wake of 'air-shaking' lovemaking...and asked Eric what his wedding gift was.
What, you don't like what I just gave you?"
"You just gave me a down payment, I hope," panted Brent.
"A gift other than me?" Eric said, "I thought a lot about it...and thought some more."
"Everything I have is available to you and anytime during your lifetime you are free to pick and choose any items we own and claim them for your own," said Eric.
"My wedding gift to you, however, is different from that. I could give an object to you, Brent, something material."
"I could offer you my body. Tonight's down payment is the first payment on that project. Prepare for more of that and be warned, husband! These aren't monthly payments. Think daily, hourly. I'm going to want some of you, too. Since you appeared to like that, perhaps I will as well." Eric grinned.
Brent looked into his eyes. "I'll always be grateful to Mona Lisa for pushing me back to you at the Louvre. She pushed me backward into the only right guy for me just when we needed to find each other. Oh, the present...?
"Brent, I have decided to give myself to Jesus and through Him to you. I want to be a Christian and live for Jesus and then live with you forever. How's that for a wedding gift?"
"It's the one I wanted, Eric. First on the list. The only one on my list. You sure seem smart to me, mate...you know that?"
"Here, babe. I'll show you smart if you show me yours."
Eric and Brent came back to the museum refreshed and ready to work.
"Do you want me to be keeper of the castle or help you with your work or just look gorgeous in our suite all day long?" Brent asked, soon after they got back from Thailand.
Eric laughed. "You've earned the right to choose your occupation in life. You are welcome to be involved in any aspect of the trust or art or gem collections that you wish. You can learn from the finest cellists in New York if you choose. If you want to commute to the Louvre and finish your Fellowship, money isn't an object for you anymore. You can't spend money fast enough to deplete the fortune...not that you should try," Eric hastened to add with a grin.
The only caution he gave him was that their father had willed certain tasks to Loren that were Loren's work alone. Eric had honored that wish. He wanted the relationship to Loren to be happy and easy. Brent understood from the first that the funds, the personal investments, were not his bailiwick.
That was fine with him. He was first assistant to the guy that needed a little opinion from time to time on his art decisions. That was work enough for the first year.
A call from Daniel came in a month later for Brent. "Brent, I miss you."
"That's better, I guess, than not missing me. I miss you too, brother of mine. How are you doing?"
"I have to tell you something. Just you, OK?"
"Sure, just us, though I share almost everything with Eric."
"I'm sure you do, horndog."
"You can't tell me you called just to give me a bad time about my sex life."
"I'm surprised you have one."
"OK, what's on your mind, really?"
"You know... the wedding?"
"I was there and participated."
"No, I mean, I sat with mom and dad and looked over there and he looked right at me and smiled."
"Who did?"
"You know, the visitors, and I need to raise enough money or get good enough grades or whatever. I'm thinking Cambridge or Eton or wherever."
"That's quite a project you have in mind. I'm sure you will work it out."
"But how? Dad is a teacher and we have what we need but... "
"Daniel, stop. Let me digest this and call you back in a few days. I don't think money is the issue. It's more likely that circumstances out of anyone's control govern some situations and you wouldn't put up with someone else plotting to win you over, would you?"
"You'll call me back if you think of something? This is embarrassing. I should have kept it to myself."
"We're brothers last I checked. I have to tell you that a smile isn't a lot to go on when figuring out someone's intentions. That person may be just looking for a friend. You might try that angle first."
"Can I come over and see you guys? I've never been to New York. You could teach me art stuff."
"I'll keep it in mind, brother."
"Thank you, Brent. I love ya."
"You too, kid."
Brent thought a long time, prayed about it, and thought some more. He thought of what role he might play in Daniel's life. He was Daniel's brother, not his father, which explained why he got the call. There were things he remembered not discussing with his dad and mom. His mom loved him and cared for him and taught him about basic goodness and kissed his bruises, just the right mom for him.
His dad was the intellectual powerhouse, not distant exactly but away at work much of the day and brought his work home a lot. His dad had the drive to be an expert in his field.
Brent chuckled. He had read the old joke about an expert being a has-been drip under pressure. The joke had been around for a while because of the play on words and the fact that it tapped into people's anti-education biases, their innate insecurities when reminded about people who knew more than they on a given subject, forgetting that everyone knows more than someone on some subject.
When Brent first tumbled to liking other guys instead of girls, his first reaction was containment. He decided that only he knew this and so to limit the damage, he just wouldn't mention it to anyone. When that didn't work well, he thought to educate himself about being gay, carefully avoiding being caught with pornography, besides most of it to him at that age was inexplicable, BDSM totally off his comfort level, scat filthy by definition, swallowing semen uncomfortable, leather incomprehensible in appeal, and licking dirty bottoms gross.
The idea at an early stage of sucking cocks was dubious prior to his first experience and bareback in a world of HIV out of bounds. He couldn't imagine parental reaction or brother reaction to being found with condoms or toys or poppers.
He did find that seeing a handsome boy made his cock hard and he wanted to hold, feel, touch and kiss them. That was the dream that did it for him at that stage. During most of the couple years prior to beginning college, he didn't participate, he had just dreamed.
During his college years, he heard stories, but no one came to him and invited him to have fun. He, as a professor's son, wasn't about to bring dishonor on his father at a school which didn't approve of such goings on.
Brent's thoughts raced on. He was Daniel's friend, not his enemy. He was Daniel's model, not his tutor and certainly not his pimp. He was a realist, not a novelist, although the latter had a place at the table.
That night he told Eric he needed to tell him about Daniel's phone call and they decided to broaden Daniel's travel horizons a little and send Raspberry over to bring Daniel over to visit his brother during Daniel's next break from school. Now aged seventeen, Daniel needed a consult with someone who understood, wouldn't judge, and couldn't punish.
Brent was a favorite in the museum. The grandmothers doted on him, Loren and Selene enjoyed his company and the security staff called him Raspberry two on the security phones and radios. They knew that Raspberry (the jet) had been Eric's first major purchase, his first love, but that his husband Brent was his second `acquisition', as it were, that he loved way more than any object he possessed.
Loren and Eric met every day at home in the museum, eating together and exercising together.
As close as they were, making business decisions that involved both of them were solved quickly. They were able to work out the wrinkles.
For example, Loren noted that the banking costs for the Funds and the trust were being paid to an outside bank.
He mentioned this to Eric who hadn't put much thought into it so far and Eric became convinced that forming or buying an existing bank would solve the problem.
Paying bank fees to themselves sounded good. The issue was how much the trust might spend for the benefit received.
They agreed to do a cost-benefit analysis and Loren's people calculated that the trust would spend ten times as much as they would receive by even becoming a major stockholder in a bank.
Loren and Eric decided to let the Dell do some financial modeling, asking it to compute the net benefit for about a hundred different scenarios varying the amount invested, the control desired, the expected benefits, the employee expenses, pension expenses, attorney and SEC expenses, the initial setup including computer costs and building expense for a new bank being a few of those variables.
Based on the Dell's models, the one scenario that cost the least for the most control and safety over time was to form their own bank. They applied for banking licenses in five states and three countries initially. All were approved.
The Schuyler trust was the major depositor, but they deposited only about half of Fund cash assets and about half of the Schuyler trust cash assets, somewhere in the low hundreds of billions of dollars, preferring not to put all of their cash/eggs in one basket.
The Schuyler Financial trust bank was a private wealth bank, meaning that a minimum deposit was required to use the bank and that deposit was massive. Each depositor had access to a private banker who would travel to the client upon request and concierge financial services were included. The millions of dollars of saved outside bank fees more than paid for employee salaries and the income generated from other customers added to a positive bottom line for both the trust and the funds.
Eric and Brent had just finished a romantic dinner at Le Cirque in Manhattan one evening when they heard a passing conversation. A passing diner was explaining to a friend that she was due in just a few weeks and as much as she enjoyed being a surrogate mom, she was ready to be done with this pregnancy. Eric looked up and over at Brent. Eric saw and heard Brent's sudden intake of breath. Brent had heard those words too.
"Are we ready to have kids, do you think?" Eric asked. They had just about finished their tiramisu and were full.
Brent looked solemnly back and opined that there was never a perfect time but if Eric wanted kids as much as Brent did, the answer was `yes'. His only caveat was that the two of them hadn't been married long. "This will sound selfish, but I want more of your time, not less."
Brent continued, "On the other hand, I've always wanted to be a dad and with help I could be a dad a kid would be proud of.
My brothers would make splendid uncles and my parents would be over the moon if we presented them with grandchildren. Why don't we talk to the family and perhaps get some medical advice if need be?"
They invited Blossom and Carol for lunch the next day to talk it over and seeing the excitement on their faces, a project was born.
Their initial preference was for both men to donate sperm to ensure at least four zygotes to implant into a surrogate with the intent of hopefully producing twins. They spoke with Dr. Watt in Pennsylvania who had helped Carol years ago. Dr. Watt referred them to an in-vitro fertilization specialist in Manhattan at Columbia University.
Their appointment was on a Tuesday morning and a Board-certified young physician, Adam McGill MD, arrived promptly to begin their evaluation.
"The mechanics on your part, are familiar to you already," he said. Should you decide to move ahead, we would arrange for collection of sperm samples here in the office in a locked private room for both of you to take your time, play a little, and masturbate, collecting a semen sample for each of you with yourselves supervising the samples from collection to the lab for an unbroken chain of `evidence'."
"In the lab, you are invited to witness the actual lab events that lead to fertilization of donor eggs and provide PIN numbers that prevent tampering with the process.
You would select the egg donor from a lengthy list of women whose physical and reproductive characteristics and outcomes are known, and that list is available to you from which to choose.
Most of the recipients of the fertilized eggs are comfortable with the process and allow the sperm donors to help supervise the actual insemination process if they wish."
Eric and Brent discussed the visit that night in the shower together.
"I can't help but think of kids out there who need parents already," Eric said. "Loren and I were those kids once."
"How important is it to us?" asked Brent. "Our own chromosomes versus meeting the needs of those already born?"
Brent took Eric in his arms and continued. "All I know is that I would not holding you right now had your dads decided to pass on their own DNA."
"I think we twins were a great trial to our dads," said Eric.
"All kids are kids for a while."
"I love you, Brent."
"Love you too, Eric. I don't have a hard-on for passing along genetic material to my own child. The one I've got now is for the naked man in the shower with me right now."
"Want to see if we can find a couple of kid-bums, huh?"
"As long as we find and raise them together Eric, I'm eager to start."
They decided to let some time go by. The big day dawned like any other. There was no hint that the day would be different than any other.
The telephone rang at Eric's office at 10 a.m.
"Eric, it's Adam McGill at Columbia. Do you have a moment?"
"Absolutely Dr. McGill. What's up?"
"Sorry to interrupt you, but I wanted to pass a situation by you and Brent. I realize that you had decided to wait a bit with adopting children and yet something has come up."
"Doc, would you mind if I patch Brent in to this call? He may want to listen in."
"Of course, Eric."
Brent came on the line and Dr. McGill introduced himself again and greeted him.
"The situation is this. I have a surrogate mother having twins tomorrow morning—twin boys as it happens. The sperm donor has been in a lethal accident and we face the situation of a couple of little baby boys without willing parents."
